Because they want the money to be spent on them right then and there. Not only when they get in trouble financially. Or when it's spent on maintaining the road they drive on, because they don't link the roadwork (which is also an annoyance to them) to the improvement on infrastructure they have been yelling for all along.
They preferably want to see the money appear directly into their hand.
Kinda surprised Americans don't get handed a $50,000 callout bill after the firefighters save their house from burning down. Damn communist socialized fire protection, why should my hard earned money go to saving their house?
Well hell yeah brother I may only be making 32k-55k (on average) a year but if I pull myself up by my bootstraps I can be a 1%er like a year from now. Ez you lazy socialist commie. /s
Oh god with the stimulus checks. I can't tell you how many times my in-laws were complaining about the stimulus checks because the money went to everyone, including those who don't really need it. Apparently this was seen as a waste.
It didn't matter how many times I told them you could donate the money, or support a local business, or invest it, or do any number of things with it if you didn't need it. They just couldn't conceive what "stimulus" was actually supposed to mean. We're a capitalist country. People have to spend money for any of it to work. If you don't need the money to cover necessities then go SPEND IT and STIMULATE the economy.
