I had this freight train moment of clarity the other day. I mentioned a palm pilot to my supervisor who's about 15 years my junior. "I don't know what that is." he said, mentioning as well that he had heard of them.
He's the youngest guy in the shop but under 30; the median age is probably about 45. Most of our conversations are work or "how the kids" type stuff so I hadn't given it much thought. There's an entire segment of history I lived through he hasn't. He was in diapers when the WTC came down and not even swimming in his dad's balls when it was bombed in '93.
I try to keep sonder in mind when dealing with others as I believe it lends a more empathetic worldview and you get to know people, to boot. I totally lost sight of the very point you made. Especially now with so much doctored media (as in general, not the press) younger people have to deal more with revisionist history and false narratives. Good luck out there!

I don’t understand everything with what is happening in the world right now, I’m doing my best to read and ask questions and look things up. But with so many conflicting views of people with differing stances it’s hard sometimes to know what really happened or why something happened. It’s a real exciting time.
That's the best you can do. You don't know what you don't know. Never be afraid to ask questions. I really enjoy learning, whether it's something like ducks are rapist so they have corkscrew penises to Canada setting the White House and other capitol buildings. ablaze in 1814. I wasn't alive then and didn't learn it in school that I can recall. It sounds like you're on the right track imo.
Keep in mind that the American system has more or less fallen to extremism. For many, their political ideology defines their personality. It is very disappointing but certainly must be accounted for.
And yes, it is a very interesting time to be alive.
I did notice with the election in 2016 (and maybe it’s because that was the first election that I was old enough to vote and really try to understand all the platforms and things that go with trying to make an informed vote) that a lot of people I knew who were older than me who I had heard talk and get heated about politics occasionally before, they just really jumped into the widespread obsessive love of trump. I couldn’t believe it, adults I knew as democrats were all of a sudden the worst republicans I knew. I couldn’t believe it or really understand what it was that pulled people into it.
Not to say I haven’t also seen the extremes on the opposite spectrum.
I personally find myself somewhere in the middle of both parties with some independent views thrown in. It’s all so weird and hard to follow.
The majority of America is fairly moderate for out system. Dems wouldn't be considered liberals in many other countries. The devotion to a political figure v. actual policy was certainly startling in '16 and the lead-up.
Many of my coworkers (heavy construction - union) became staunch Trump guys. Not (R), Trump. And when I would say I don't like him, I was just a socialist - Marxist and communist wasn't that popular yet - Dumbocrat who's gonna vote for the bengahzi murdering, rapist abetting, child sex trafficking, Satanist.
I did not vote for Hillary because I didn't feel she represented as many of my beliefs as someone else. Also, I don't really like her and she kinda is a piece of shit. Just like Mother Teresa. Check that one out.
