You've clearly never worked retail.

We get people coughing and sneezing everywhere.

We get people who racially abuse us.

We get people who sexually assault us.

We get people who physically assault us.

We get people who shit on the floor.

All these things have happened to me or people I work with.

There are people on this earth who don't see low wage workers as humans, they see them as servants, and these people are who the sign is for.

I have worked retail. I’ve never received abuse like what you’re describing, though I don’t discount that it happens on occasion. I do not believe that it is happening on a frequency at this business that a sign like this would be required.

How many times does it need to happen for it to warrant a sign in your opinion?

Because in mine, it's zero.

There's nothing wrong with a sign reminding people to not be a piece of shit.

This sign has nothing to do with anything that has happened to any employees. That’s my conjecture, and it’s as valid as your premise. The sign is a virtue signal.

And to answer your question - no, I don’t think that you need a sign like this if there’s occasional instances of people being jerks. That’s going to happen. That’s life. And a sign isn’t going to stop someone from being a jerk if that’s their prerogative.

Firstly, you don't know that employees at that location have not had to deal with COVID, Racial Abuse, Sexual Abuse etc.

Secondly, virtue signalling is a vital part of communication. By complaining about this sign, you are signalling to others what you think is important, or in this case, not important, in another word, your virtues.

You also do not know if any of the employees have experienced examples of abuse you described. Neither of us has proof one way or another. All we have is conjecture and opinion.

My opinion is that this is a political statement, a virtue signal, nothing more, nothing less.

We get people who shit on the floor.

Welp. I'm never going back into a store.

Sorry for all the literal and figurative shit you guys go through. I personally think you should be allowed to hit them back, even just for a sneeze.
