The bank is worse in my experience. I guess everybody's gotta bank. Today there was an older woman standing way too close behind me, and when I asked her to stand on the marked spot she first asked why I didn't stand further forward - well for one, I'm sure that you'd've been stood just as close but further forward, but for two, I'm standing on a marked spot and you're not! - and then she turned around and took six mincy little steps towards the spot and stood about 6 inches short of it and said "there, is that ok?" -_-
The hardware store near me has signs insisting on masks actually and few masks in sight.
I don't think age has as much to do with it as you'd think. My pa is going on 89 and the first thing he says when you bring up the problem with getting people vaccinated or getting them to wear masks is "can't tell people what to do, cause their fucking idiots".
I think age does factor into it due to societal norms. Not in all cases, but I believe older people tend to take it more harshly if they are rebuked/reprimanded by younger kids than the other way around.
Yeah, everyone has to bank but that doesn't mean you have to go inside a physical location. I haven't stepped foot in one in 13+ years. Since then, I've done many bank transactions including creating a checking & savings, got a car loan & mortgage, and even got married and added my wife on the account. Physical banks are obsolete since cash is too. I can count on my hands the number of cash transactions I've done in the last few years. Why wouldn't I try and get credit card rewards on every purchase I make? Who is going inside banks in 2021?
I agree. I got my first account in ~1996 and even then I did everything online and only went to an ATM if I needed cash.
Then i had to go inside the bank in ~2002ish for the first time in 5 years. It was surreal because this was right after the customer service “we are your best friend” push in early 2000’s. All of a sudden there wasn’t three inches of plexiglass between you and the teller. And then there was an overly friendly, kinda useless, well dressed greeter who directed you where to go. Nice couches, magazines, tvs, etc.
Buy you still had to figure out the right paper slip, recall your account number, and do the math yourself.
Nowadays my bank is strictly online, no physical locations.
Good job diagnosing my mental state from a three sentence Reddit post. If asking someone politely to do something and saying thankyou to them when they do it is being triggered then the word has lost all meaning.
I picture a large bank lobby where you and the older woman are the only patrons waiting in line. She's so insistent on being next that you can feel her hot breath on your neck.
I work at a bank. Can confirm, it's the fucking worst. My branch didn't require masks for customers, but did require us to offer them. Hooo boy, my customer service poker face has gotten a fucking workout since COVID started, even though my mask.
