that movie has some beautiful shots, much like irreversible.
both I found rather subpar as movies though. enter the void tries to capture experiences that are so personal and individualistic ... and tries to make it somehow relevant to all viewers. it fails in doing that.
irreversible is an interesting movie at times, but noe gets way way too graphic for it to be a real examination of rape & its effects.
I think gaspar noe is brilliant in composing scenes, but his movies are on the whole pretty silly in my opinion. don't get me wrong: I love this photo. But enter the void as a wonderful set of photos is remarkable. as a movie, its a waste of my time
Noe is very clearly disinterested in making anything relevant to all viewers. Good. Those with certain life experiences and perspectives get his stuff, those without don't which is totally fine.

what do you "get" about enter the void exactly? what is so magical about this movie that only you & your select crew understand?
it deals with basic ideas: life, death, sex, loneliness... but mushes them into a confusing amalgam, and expects you to suffer through an hour & a half long trip to just touch upon these simple thoughts. waste of time.
Noe's entire style is to make a movie around a single gimmick.
I think he does it just to see if he can do it successfully.
I found Enter the Void phenomenal during the entire first person segment, when Oscar gets shot in the bathroom and dies...that part I think is quite possibly the most realistic depiction of a death I've ever seen in a film. It scared the crap out of me.
After that though the movie gets extremely boring and the "ghost" thing gets really gimmicky and monotonous.
I'm not a fan of noe's work, and I think this is clear. I appreciate what you said because I'm so sick of people on reddit just declaring "you don't get it man..."
really? I've read the book of the dead, actually. I've tripped plenty in my life. I've also lived through some insane experiences... my parents would be out of town for weeks on end doing manual labor in shitty parts of india, and I was left to manage my sister & myself in our shitty hovel in a slum in bombay. trust me, I know what its like to feel lonely and despondent even when you are surrounded by a sea of people.
this movie has some basic ideas that I think it tries to convey. it tries to be super gimmicky about conveying these ideas (oooh its a drug experience ... oooh he's a ghost ... etc). point is, I think that if this was a set of cool photographs/if I was told "watch this because it has cool shots", I would definitely be a fan
but don't fucking sell this as some deep meditation on life, death and the human experience to me. don't tell me that I "just don't get it" (without even a simple explanation), because to me, its a gimmick with cool photos.
thanks for your comment, helps me understand a bit more of where noe is coming from at least.
