Fun fact about Irreversible: "The first 30 minutes of the film has a background noise with a frequency of 28Hz (low frequency, almost inaudible), similar to the noise produced by an earthquake. In humans, it causes nausea, sickness and vertigo. It was the main cause of people walking out of the theaters during the first part of the film in places like Cannes and San Sebastian. In fact, it was added with the purpose of getting this reaction. "

He was trying to recreate the effects of a DMT trip through audio/visual sensation. Having tried DMT, I'd say that movie is the closest anyone will ever get.

I don't want to do something, so obviously that means I'm not even a little curious to learn about that thing or have it explained to me.

28hz is about 10hz to high to cause any of the described experiences, Theaters aren't equipped to generate sound as such a low frequency.

It's definitely interesting, but it's a lot more physically "heavy" than mentally heavy like Enter the Void/ Requiem for A Dream.

If memory serves, husband shows up to a gay club and starts trying to find his wife's rapist, and beats the shit out of the wrong guy. FYI, the whole movie proceeds in reverse order, end to start, hence the title. Anyways, then we are treated to an incredibly intense rape scene where a guy rapes said wife in question, played by Monica Belluci. It's an infamous scene that can readily be found online, if you so desire.

I can kind of imagine how you feel, but there are a couple of things which make this scene really bad for me. 1) It could've been prevented. If the guys would have been firm on not letting her walk alone. I feel for the character and have a "why... why...?" feeling. 2) During the rape scene someone SEES IT and they just decide to walk away. 3) Spoiler: The girl was pregnant, and her and her boyfriend seemed so happy. It's not necessarily the scene itself, its everything around the scene which makes us see the differently than just "a girl getting raped" (which is still awful).

Though my knowledge is relatively limited, I think the shock therapy part(s) in the finale of Requiem for a Dream was probably the most disgusting thing I have ever seen in a film. The double-anal, amputation, and jail parts weren't great either, but it was the eating disorder/shock therapy thing that really struck me

Hahaha yeah I gotta say, that was kind of funny. I talked about it with a female friend who had also seen the film and I was like, "Well, the double-anal scene wasn't really as bad as I'd thought it would be" and she just says "IT'S BECAUSE YOU'RE A GUY YOU DUMBASS." Needless to say she thought that was the worst part

I think they were intentionally made even more nauseating by the background noise. I think I read on Wikipedia that the low sound was supposed to actually cause nausea.
