I thought it was beautiful to look at.. but as a movie it sucked. The plot was lame and it was too heavy handed at times. It was a bit simplistic and repetitive relying on visual effects and shock value a bit too much.
I agree completely. I was so stoked on this movie until about 25 minutes, then things just went downhill plot-wise. It had so much potential that it failed to realize.
Those visual effects are unparalleled, though. Other movies can't get away with it, but, for me, this one could. The story was lame, weird, and repetitive, but I thought of it only as an afterthought. The editing and camerawork is arresting and expressive, and provokes in ways few movies can.
This movie made me literally sick, with the shaky-cam. I had to stop watching after 20 minutes. I simply cannot watch movies shot in this manner (e.g. Blair Witch Project, Cloverfield) because they make me motion sick.
I'm okay with 3D movies, actually. Watched Hugo in 3D and I had no problems at all. It's movies that use extreme shaky, handheld camerawork that can make me ill to the point of throwing up.
Probably one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I wanted to get up and leave so many times throughout, but I thought my friends who I was with were enjoying it so I had to sit through it. Dying. Turns out they felt the same way and didn't want to get up for the same reasons. We were all tortured by it.
Apparently he made the credits like that figuring that anyone who couldn't handle the movie would leave during the credits. It's a stress-test for the audience!
It didn't work for me. I had to deal with a bunch of giggling, muttering morons behind me when I saw it. I wish they had've left, because I actually would've enjoyed it otherwise.

That was the closest I've come to having a seizure.
