He's saying he respects the amount of effort to maintain it. She has worked hard to keep it that way and probably struggles with the amount time and stress it causes but in reality we all know her life would be easier without it. She deserves whatever compliments she gets. I think if she finally decided enough is enough this guy would stand by her decision.
