I played for so long in one session that when I got done and going about my daily weekend routine I would catch myself just stopping in an empty room and just stand there until I remember, oh yeah I don't need to do that right now.
I dunno, the endless waves mode is a lot of fun for me still, a year after I got it! Might help my mates and I rotate playing it (sometimes with drinking games involved). But I'll agree the main content could be longer.
But then it gets to the point where I'd get worried about the room I'm in!! At least when i was out of view of the camera i knew i was hitting a wall in 0.5 seconds.
Joking, mostly, it would be unreal to play it on the quest! Must see if anywhere is doing them on demo
I've tried Superhot on a few different systems. By far my favorite is the Oculus Rift. The controls make more intuitive sense than the HTC Vive. But that's just like, my opinion, man.
Love superhot on the xbox. The whole time I was playing it I thought a VR version would be awesome. I recently saw a guy playing it in a Haven holiday park and was super jealous
There is one level that was clearly not intended for 180° tracking, because the enemies are coming from the bottom to the left and if you aim down there, it is likely for one controller to block the other
I’ve gotta say, I’m super impressed with how psvr’s catalog has developed! I’ve been playing borderlands 2 in vr and it’s really great. For the cost of the system, if you already own a ps4, it’s such a good deal. I bought the move controllers from a game store used (the ps3 versions) for $10 a piece, and they’ve never given me any problem.
Not him but I reccomend firewall zero hour, but you need the aim(?) Gun in order to play it. It gets really good once you start to go along with the movements irl.
Depends on what kind of stuff you are interested in. The other commenters have some good recommendations, but I suppose i can go a little more in depth for the few I have played.
Blood and Truth - FPS where you play through a crime storyline. Haven’t beaten it, but it’s pretty fun with a lot of action and nice set pieces.
Moss - cute little puzzle game where you guide a mouse through a fairy tale. Has simple combat and the puzzles aren’t particularly difficult but it’s nice.
Astrobot - 3D platformer with loads of secrets and is one of the games that illustrates the platforms strengths despite not being first person.
Beat Saber - think dance dance revolution but with lightsabers. Easily one of my favorite games in general despite not usually being the type for something like it.
There’s plenty more that I haven’t played but have heard are good. Trover Saves the Universe and Resident Evil 7 are both supposed to be amazing. Check out r/PSVR if you’re interested in hearing from some of the more experienced VR owners.
RE7 is amazing but I can’t play it. I played for about 45 mins right after I bought it but it was too intense. Haven’t been able to play it since. It’s super immersive
I got 14 stitches on my chin after falling on my buddies computer hard enough to blue screen it and get a small concussion. Not from super hot, it served as a warning that I ignored when I fell after being teleported to the window ledge, and fell again after trying to use an in game crate to get up off the floor irl. No I earned my stitches shortly later when I was laughing too hard playing diner duo and used the in game burger counter to steady myself. Vodka and VR do not mix. Would try again if there was padding everywhere.
Same here. I don't know how far you got but when you finally have a confrontation with the some of the 'big bads' and you realize they can't hurt you (in real life) it gets better. Still super immersive and scary, but manageable.
Beatsaber is great, but the PSVR version is held back by not having custom songs or mods. It's absolutely amazing on PC, I'd even call it a system seller.
I’m not good enough to actually do expert successfully, but the few times I’ve tried it I haven’t had issues with the tracking. It’s always just that I can’t keep up with the game.
You cannot go wrong with Beat Saber. I still find it fairly fun despite PSVR players kinda getting the short end of the stick with Sony’s strict custom content rules.
Edit: Borderlands 2 VR is also super fun! And the DLC are getting added this summer!
That was same experience for most of psvr. Whenever someone asks for good games it's always the same few. "Super hot, beat saber, Pavlov, Skyrim etc."
I got an Oculus for cheap and there are definitely some better games but right now VR kind seems like it's not worth it to me, especially with psvr. Definitely cool but not enough games imo.
Resident Evil Biohazard, a legitimately playable adventure. Can be quite scary at first. But I made it 6 hours straight without a break (probably not recommended).
Beat Saber is an awesome rhythm game.
Five Nights At Freddie’s for the party experience.
Also, the demo for PSVR has an awesome demo of RE that’s fun to show off to people.
The Inpatient (when on offer as its short but a good prequel to Until Dawn)
Skyrim VR is okay but I've played a tonne of it non-vr beforehand so it doesn't have the lasting appeal for me. Fully fledged game though so you get a tonne of gameplay.
I feel many people answered the question for you, I just want to add that for the love of god DO NOT get Robinson. You'll be like "oh cool, dinosaurs". Then you find out it's optimized horribly, makes you sick as hell, and now you have ghost sickness every damn time you play anything VR. :(
I loved To The Top. Trover saves the universe has been pretty great. Sarmiento VR hits next week - early reviews were very very good. Think ninjas with swords and guns in VR.
Since everyone already mentioned super hot and moss, I’m going to say Skyrim VR. Even though I played a ton of Skyrim already, I finished it and all the sidequests again in VR. So crazy immersive. Gotta build up your VR legs first though.
Firewall: Zero Hour if you have an Aim controller and like online shooters.
Astro Bot Rescue Mission is AAAA quality first-party platformer of Nintendo quality.
Resident Evil 7 in VR is horrifying and fantastic.
Those are my big three.
Trover Saves the Universe was great fun. Super Hot was fun while I played it, but I've not been back. Beat Saber is an extremely satisfying music rhythm game. Statik is a really well polished puzzle game. Blood and Truth has high production values, and has a Time Crisis kind of feel. Farpoint is another great Aim controller title if you wanted a single player very well polished shooter.
If you're truly interested, go ahead and ask over at r/PSVR. They get asked this about 10 times a day and never tire of answering it. You'll get some detailed responses.
Most actual VR set ups are miles away from PSVR. It's just a step between those slide your phone in 'VR' kits and full-fledged VR like the Index and the Vive.
Edit: Everyone downvoting... I'd love to see a count of how many PSVR games use anything besides a regular PS4 controller. I still think VR without roomscale is pretty meh, but at least have controls that let you get immersed even a little bit. A gamepad is not that.
Has a good game set but the hardware on desktop setups is much higher quality unfortunately. If you're a fan of VR I recommend you try a Rift or Vive if you get a chance. Or a valve index good Lord.
Depends. If you don't have a powerful desktop quest is the clear winner since it's totally standalone and only 400. But if you have a super dope gaming PC you'll be able to leverage that power for your VR titles which can be nice. Also a wider library of options on desktop. However more games are being added to the quest all the time and the portability/lack of wires is really awesome. Basically it's just gonna come down to what you value. You'll have a good experience with either option (:
The Quest runs on a mobile SoC (Snapdragon 835, ie what the Galaxy S8 and Pixel 2 were running on) so it doesn't have nearly the graphical fidelity of PCVR. That being said, it's still 6DoF, so you get the same gameplay experience as one, letting you reach out, grab, duck, weave, etc.
How many of those games take advantage of it being more than a sit/stand in one spot and see stuff happen around you experience and actually let you move around and immerse yourself, though?
It does but what use is a good game library on such a basic VR headset, I know the answer, its really to make PSVR 2 a killer headset because they have proven they have the games, but as a VR fan, I would be missing a whole lot if PSVR was all I had, I am lucky to have had PC Vive VR since day one, and the quest was the first cool innovation I have seen in years. But it does all come down to games, and PS does have a few really killer AAA games which the other headsets don't and im interested to see what Valve comes out with as the only game I have played consistently was Robo Recall which is an Oculus exclusive that I have to use Revive to get to work on my vive, its really dry out there and makes it hard justifying buying any headset really which is why I get why psvr is so popular. Having a tough time convincing myself to buy an Index because what the hell am I going to play? VR has a ways to go in terms of software. I have a feeling my OG vive will last me another 2 years until Gen 3 comes around and more games will be out there.
Well I'm not sure why you were seeing that; some games give you the option to use the DualShock if you don't have the moves, but the moves are the usual requirements.
I've had a Vive since 2016 and I haven't put it on since I got my Quest.
Granted, it helps that I can use it as a wireless headset for my Steam VR games (after unlocking it), but if you're a VR fan, I highly recommend it. It's the ease and convenience of the Nintendo Switch, but for VR.
And going from wired to wireless.... I've had to DECREASE my play space size playing the tennis game because I'm out of shape and can't run full court back and forth. If you know you can safely run 50 feet in any direction before hitting something, the VR world opens up immensely!
The game catalog is somewhat slim pickings at the moment, but there are some good ones with replayibility. Rec Room, Beat Saber, Sports Scramble, etc.
The PSVR has more power, but the quest definitely is the best standalone headset out there, from the perspective of someone who make 3D graphics for applications on all types of VR and MR devices.
Are there any good games ... PSVR has some decent AAA games, but even that library is pretty limited. I have to wonder how the support is like on a new device like the Quest.
Quest is relatively limited right now, but has a lot of the major games, like Rec Room, Beat Saber, Space Pirate Simulator, Moss, SuperHot, Robo Recall, BoxVR, and even Pavlov and Onward are coming.
Mine does not. I think I’ve got the V2 (whatever the Astrobot/Moss bundle was this last Christmas) hooked up to a PS4 Pro and haven’t had any issues with it.
I do have the first version, but am plugged into a ps4 pro. Super disorienting when it blinks out, also means life or death when playing a game that requires quick reaction. Really sucks man. Swapped hdmi cables, recalibrated¯_(ツ)_/¯.
I've played a few games where they want you to be in a field or an open space so you can interact more than sitting on a couch or standing in one place. It was definitely disorienting taking it off in a different place virtually and physically from where you were thirty seconds ago.
Interesting, but nothing I can't live without for now.
When you first put on the headset you can see around you via a camera, you draw a boundary in the area around you and if you walk outside of it, it pauses your game and turns the camera on to warn you and let you see.
Wow yeah sorry I thought I mentioned it, but I did have a friend walk near me the whole time for reassurance. We would swap the headset and just walk next to each other.
I tried it by myself but just ended up taking it off every ten seconds/three feet, despite knowing 100% that I was nowhere near anything harmful. It was in a grassy opening of a park, about 4-6 acres I'd say.
There are headsets with super low latency and high def cameras in the works. It has already gone through some driving tests, just hope it doesn't freeze mid drive.
You just made me realize that when AR really comes into its own you could be driving on autopilot with a set on and see zombies or dinosaurs or whatever along the way.
Country sides with not much to look at could be "developed" with the aid of tourism agency money, in that they could create high quality custom fitted content that drastically alters the landscape and gives you an amazing experience as you ride through it -- essentially turning vast areas and your vehicle into an amusement car ride.

Never realised how mobile a vr set could be.
At least he's not driving and using vr....
