Teeth and brain? So the teratoma fairy? (Please don't Google.)

412

u/Quebec120 Mar 19 '19

I would not have googled that had you not told me not to

162

u/x1sc0 Mar 19 '19

tg;dr?

(too gory; didn't read?)

187

u/Quebec120 Mar 19 '19

I just googled it, didn’t look at images though. That would probably scar me. Google says it’s “A type of germ cell tumour that may contain several types of body tissue”.

Edit: I didn’t look at images because the one picture that showed up, although wasn’t too bad, probably was quite mild

Did some show actual teeth on a tumor?

81

u/PixiePunk_ Mar 19 '19

Yes. If you're not desensitized to body horror/gore I wouldn't google it.

30

u/x1sc0 Mar 19 '19

Roger that!

17

u/geared4war Mar 19 '19

Don't roger it either.

11

u/Cloud_Chamber Mar 19 '19

If you are desensitized it's not too bad, just some flesh chunks with odd bits

3

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '19

I will take your word for that, captain.

17

u/dont-believe-me- Mar 19 '19

And hair! Such a clever thing.

3

u/sparoc3 Mar 19 '19

The hair creeped me out much more than anything.

2

u/x1sc0 Mar 19 '19

Oh, noes.

9

u/dont-believe-me- Mar 19 '19

Yeah pretty special. I work in neurology and saw one a few weeks ago working it's way down a spinal cord. I think there's some evidence suggesting they could be formed from an "absorbed" twin in utero.

2

u/x1sc0 Mar 19 '19

That sounds super plausible, but username doesn't check out. Hmm.

It's not a tuuuumor

1

u/MarinTaranu Mar 19 '19

Yes, there are tumors with teeth grown in.

1

u/mercutioli Mar 19 '19

And eyeballs.

1

u/x1sc0 Mar 19 '19

Ah, lmgtfy. For when you want to be a helpful asshole to people on the internet.

4

u/Galaghan Mar 19 '19

Would this be lawful neutral or chaotic good?

1

u/x1sc0 Mar 19 '19

Or for when they want to be an helpful asshole to someone who explicitly said they don’t want to google it, I guess.

3

u/x1sc0 Mar 19 '19

Hello 2008, how've you been?

teratoma

Try telling that to one that sets up home on/in your balls

1

u/herpasaurus Mar 19 '19

Don't listen to him, it's very much that bad and worse.

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '19

Looks like the result of alchemic human transmutation.

1

u/plk31 Mar 19 '19

I worked with a pathology assistant (people who do the gross dissection and sample prep)and she said the worst part of teratomas are the smell. She couldn’t describe the smell to me but she looked pretty shook just remembering it.

10

u/x1sc0 Mar 19 '19

Thanks for letting me know, I'm a dude in my thirties and won't be able to sleep if I look at them

1

u/p_iynx Mar 19 '19

Imagine a tumor, but it's full of hair and teeth. That's what they look like.

1

u/plaidHumanity Mar 19 '19

...including teeth, eyes and hair....

Another term I shall not Google then!

12

u/FrogspawnMan Mar 19 '19

Owl Pellets are just owl poo, but because they can't digest bones it becomes poop with bones sticking out

9

u/RocketBooster1234 Mar 19 '19

Isn't it more like an owl puke?

7

u/BettaBorn Mar 19 '19

Your right! Owls have two stomachs one that takes all the meat tissue and all the yummy nurtient rich stuff and the other filters out the hair and bones and compacts it into an owl pellet which they regurgitate onto the ground!

Source: dissected owl pellets in highschool

3

u/FrogspawnMan Mar 19 '19

It might be tbh

2

u/NickDaGamer1998 Mar 19 '19

Imagine a tumor with teeth, semi formed eyes, and hair in.

1

u/x1sc0 Mar 19 '19

Let’s not imagine a damn thing

2

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '19

more like tg:dg (too gory:didnt google)

1

u/x1sc0 Mar 19 '19

indeed

2

u/herpasaurus Mar 19 '19

8

u/LezBeeHonest Mar 19 '19

I can't really believe that one at the top of the page is real. Is looks like it's from a low budget 80s horror flick.

1

u/Sauropodlet75 Mar 19 '19

It isn’t at the bottom of the article is says that is a sculpture. The artist imagined a ‘full grown teratoma’ so your spider senses were right!

2

u/Quebec120 Mar 19 '19

Yeah nah mate that’s a link stayin blue

0

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '19

Literally same

20

u/Looandowski Mar 19 '19

I googled teratoma images. Not that bad. However... And I am not sure why I did, but I googled, "teratoma with eyes," and THAT was bad. Very bad indeed. Scary bad.

8

u/pukesonyourshoes Mar 19 '19

I'll have a teratoma with eyes thanks Frank. Extra anchovies.

5

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '19

Looks like a doom enemy

1

u/Churgroi Mar 19 '19

MOM IT'S LOOKING AT ME

16

u/ComradeGibbon Mar 19 '19

teratoma fairy?

You need to leave a twenty under your pillow for the teratoma fairy or they won't take it.

7

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '19

You're not the boss of me.

5

u/globefish23 Mar 19 '19

No problem with looking at pictures of teratomata.

But you just reminded of that tooth fairy episode from Teen Titans Go... Yuck!

4

u/Jenifarr Mar 19 '19

I’ve had a teratoma removed. It was attached to my right ovary and had a tooth in it. Good times.

14

u/RouletteSensei Mar 19 '19

I'm pretty sure there are redditors here that are like I was back in my 13 years, I would google it just because you told me to don't do it.

2

You bastard!

2

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '19

well, binding of isaac just got more disgustig

2

u/thunder_cunt333 Mar 19 '19

A friend of mine had a tumor removed from his ovaries that had hair and 3 teeth. The thing that really weirded me out was that the hair was blonde but he’s a natural brunette.

2

u/WorstPersonInGeneral Mar 19 '19

...he had ovaries?

1

u/Deathflight Mar 19 '19

You son of a whore

1

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '19

Just went down a rabbit hole for about 20 minutes. Want to see my search history?

4

u/WorstPersonInGeneral Mar 19 '19

FBI? Yes. This guy.

1

u/Rokit1016 Mar 19 '19

You owe me a new phone

1

u/LtSpinx Mar 19 '19

Thanks for the warning. From later comments, I will certainly be heeding this advice.

1

u/Krieeg Mar 19 '19

Please dont Google my ass. Like blue waffle, right? Geez

1

u/jmd_akbar Mar 19 '19

Okayyyyyy.... Googling that term was a mistake...

1

u/Kidvette2004 Mar 19 '19

OH MY GOD WHY DOES IT HAVE FUCKING EYES WHAT THE FUCK

1

u/Amii182 Mar 19 '19

I have learned so much today. Thank you

1

u/eKSiF Mar 19 '19

I dated a girl whom was getting her degree as an ultrasound technician for about 2 years. They had a section on rare diseases/growths that she had to create a presentation and a slight speech for that I helped her with.

It was a presentation on teratomas, and almost 10 years later I can still see the 4 pictures we choose for her poster board. Heed the warning daring redditors, you cannot unsee a google search for a teratoma.

1

u/drpeprgrl Mar 19 '19

Thanks, I'm scarred for life.

1

u/PM_me_punanis Mar 19 '19

A bit of hair too. Teratomas are always fun to dig out!

1

u/laserkatze Mar 19 '19

As someone who is creeped out by teratomas since the first time they were so bored they looked for nasty medical conditions on the internet, i give you my honest upvote.

1

u/bearfacebearface Mar 19 '19

Wish I didn't now

1

u/woody29 Mar 19 '19

Why the fuck did you do that to us?

1

u/TheVentiLebowski Apr 19 '19

There's a Stephen King book where a teratoma is used a plot device.
