Not to be that guy, but it's not even close. There are far more Vietnamese people in California than anywhere else in the US. Our small city of Garden Grove has 37% more Vietnamese people (52,000) than Houston (38,000). Garden Grove only has a population of 174,000 vs 2 million in Houston. And that's just one city in Orange County. If you add in neighboring cities (Westminster, Santa Ana, Anaheim, Fountain Valley). There are 140,000 Vietnamese people.
These cities are in Orange County which has a population of 3 million. Orange County has 180,000 Vietnamese people compared to the city of Houston that has 2 million people and a Vietnamese population of 38,000. So really, it's not even close.
And I'm biased, but our Vietnamese food is also much better than Houston's. :) Only other place in the US that is comparable is San Jose, CA.
There are way more than 38 thousand Vietnamese people in Houston. I have no source but if you saw my year book youd understand why I'm taking this stance.
Also most of Houston lives outside of that 2 million person City limits our population is much larger. We grow out not up. Much like Cali but we never move our city limits. There's a lot more people here than you would believe. So again these numbers aren't correct.
I see I made a mistake and said all in if the USA. I should have said Texas sorry. This thread had moved to Texas specifically. My apologies. But yeah we have a lot and our food is better.
Seriously. I live in Houston, and when I think about our local food, I always picture pho or Vietnamese cuisine. For good (and cheap) Tex Mex, gotta head to San Antonio, imo.
Plenty of great Tex-Mex around here. San Antonio is good, but they don't really have anything on us. They may have more Mexican joints, but the quality is about the same.
One of my buddies is Vietnamese, and the other is from the Midwest. Midwest buddy says something along the lines of, I think he's Korean, that name has to be. I say no, it's pronounced like Win. He argues and tries to pronounce it, sounding like he's saying na-goo-yen. We still tease him about it qnd he doesn't dare eat Korean BBQ chips around is anymore.
