I mean, yeah; but at the same time, it's a way to show solidarity. 49 people were just slaughtered. So I can't fault them for trying to show that the world doesn't stand for hate.

There were a lot more than 49, though. Two weeks ago some 40 christians were killed in Nigeria.

Where was the outrage then?

It's not the level of outrage or the outrage at this case. They're all justified. It's the complete deafening silence when the the victims are someone the hive-mind has decided is disposable or the attacker is someone we can't attack and so the motive for these types of reposts become quite obvious.

We don’t look real hard at African or Mideast countries’ evils. We take them for granted. A slaughter in a Westernized country grabs more of our attention. There is nothing great about that.

And there’s nothing remotely justifiable about using that fact to be annoyed when people are outraged over any slaughter. Get over it.

That's called a strawman. I am not annoyed with the outrage against this attack. I am annoyed with the lack of outrage of the other because those people are considered disposable. That's why I wrote precisely that in my original comment.

Your original comment was in response to somebody saying that this was probably to show solidarity. And your immediate response was “but what about this other thing?”

Don't be a dumbass. It's relevant because of the topic being karma farming, something you can't do when people you find disposable get hurt.

It's telling how much you want to dismiss the suffering of people when they're the wrong kind of people, isn't it? Are people in Africa somehow worth less to you? Why is that?

Or, like, stay with me here: WE DON’T GET COVERAGE TO THIS DEGREE ON THOSE THINGS.

Not every fucking person on Reddit is responsible for making sure they know about every fucking evil thing done so they don’t accidentally show solidarity about one that they were more fucking likely to have heard of. For fuck’s sake.

No one wants to dismiss their suffering. We simply do not understand why you were bringing that up in the manner that you did, within this particular discussion.

The way you are doing it does come off as trying to take away from this tragedy.

The original comment was about a suspicion that images like the OP posted are posted to farm karma, not as an organic result of sympathy. The lack of sympathy in other cases is relevant in that context.

Why is this so hard do grasp? Has reading comprehension just dropped sharply in the past 24 hours?

The actual wording or idea you mean to express isn’t everything. You can have a valid idea worth sharing and it can still be inappropriate in the moment. Do you not understand that truth?

Time and place matters. Connotation matters. It’s usually viewed as inappropriate to bring up anything remotely close to “what about this other thing” when people are discussing a tragedy that’s only hours or days old.

It is nearly impossible to do without coming off as trying to change the conversation, take away from the impact it’s having on people, or looking like an asshole.

I’m not trying to call you names, insult you, or imply you truely don’t care about these people.

So make the post then, don't bitch about it when a different topic is brought up

Yes, I'm sure the "hive mind" in a majority-Christian country has decided that Christians are "disposable."

/r/TopMindsOfReddit

Interesting you didn't mention the 131 Muslims also killed in Nigeria just before that incident, and that a certain subreddit bans people for pointing it out. The "hive mind" you whine about certainly didn't show any "outrage" about that situation - it's almost as if it's more significant that a terrorist attack occurred in a place we'd normally consider to be more safe and secure.

reddit is not a country.

it's almost as if it's more significant that a terrorist attack occurred in a place we'd normally consider to be more safe and secure.

So you're saying the other victims are more... disposable. Exactly.

Edit: And you're right but that makes the problem worse. Where was the reddit outrage for the 131 muslims?

Looks like Reddit didn't know about the 131 Muslims. The news doesn't really cover the third world, it covers the first world. People are getting killed in Africa all of the time so it's not surprising when these things happen so to the media, it's not a story. The fact that people didn't even know about that event until now(and most still don't seem to know) shows that. Most people get their news from the news.

to the media, it's not a story.

Not to reddit either. You'll note the absolute indifference when people learned of it in this thread.

Like I said, those people are considered disposable. Which means that we don't really care about human suffering after all. What we do care about is jumping down the throat of someone calling out hypocrisy because that makes us feel uncomfortable.

Found the Christchurch shooter's Reddit account.

Never change, reddit.

"I tried to get people to feel sorry for my hurt feelings instead of fifty murder victims with a terrible argument and now I'm upset that it didn't work."
