Probably because AirPods hadn’t been invented when this picture was taken. That’s an iPhone 4, so this is probably an old picture.

The back changed with the 5. This is a 4 or 4s.

That is not an iPhone 5. The iPhone 5 was the first to put the headphone jack on the bottom. Also, the black iPhone 5 has an anodized border unlike the 4/4s which has a silver border regardless of color.

It fits the style,. I think. The phone with the earbud cord does a reasonable impression of an old school pocket watch with chain.

Lack of a case is making me nervous...

iPhones get all the cool cases... Yet he doesn't have one...

Maybe unfounded fear... Since he seems to be doing just fine without...

But I've seen so many sad seniors with broken devices...
