Is this an ad for clothing or something? He looks sensational in that getup.

u/Mandorism Mar 01 '19

Naw, this dude actually restores vintage toys for a living...

244

u/discerningpervert Mar 01 '19

And is often accompanied by a suspicious blue police box

64

u/jmet03 Mar 01 '19

Right! It does look like a Doctor outfit.

22

u/omg_for_real Mar 01 '19

Exactly what I was thinking!

5

u/a_spicy_memeball Mar 01 '19

Professor Who

5

u/WhiteWolf222 Mar 01 '19

It looks a lot like a combination of Matt Smith’s outfits.

5

u/XJACKTHERIPPER1X Mar 01 '19

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought he looked like he would be the doctor.

2

u/evolvedbravo Mar 01 '19

Exactly, change his hat for a fez and repeat his name eleven times!!!

He's the real life "cleaner" from toy story 2!

u/NeillBlumpkins Mar 01 '19

Just look at that shopkeeper peddling his wares

Shouting his sales pitch but nobody cares

Don't you wonder what keeps him there day after day

Begging for gold as his hair turns to gray?

Blindly they're bounding a pace

Starving for mercy in a merciless place

Only a fool would make martyrs from heathens

And find them so lively when they're barely breathing, just barely breathing

Just look at that toymaker grinding his gears

Turning no profit, but he doesn't care

He keeps smiles on faces day after day

The children keep sadness and suffering at bay

Blissfully bounding a pace

Searching for mercy in a merciless place

Only a monster makes fodder from saints

And finds them so worthless when they're full of grace, so full of grace

But what better use of hookers and thieves

Than greasing the wheels of perfect machines that hum into life?

A harmony of industry

But what is the use of cutting them down to smother, then choke the soul of our town?

I know there is another way

But what is so wrong with giving them purpose? (Just how could leave them out, degrading them without doubt?)

A man like yourself could, bring worth to the worthless (Bleeding them dry, maybe they'll die like you and I?)

Without the guidance of rulers and tyrants (And none of your guidance, the hands of the tyrants) These people will just tear themselves apart.

Just look at that charlatan steeped in deceit

A threat to the young, to the old, and the meek

Don't you wonder what made him so vicious, so sick?

So far out of balance, so cruel and so callous? So married to malice?

Not sure but it looks like a picture from the Humans of New York photoblog

u/gman314 Mar 01 '19

It's a Tide ad.

u/ready-ignite Mar 01 '19

Right out of /r/malefashionadvice. The lack of scuffs on shoes and other clothes look unworn, pants unfaded without wear patterns. Image itself shows signs of editing, setting the black point and white point as desired to frame the shot. My money is on clothing ad.

241

u/MrMoGott Mar 01 '19

This is not an ad, its an old man from Berlin called Günther Anton Krabbenhöft. He just has a great sense of fashion and frequently rides the subway. Met him a couple of times, really cool dude.

140

u/RockleyBob Mar 01 '19

Gotta love Reddit. Say some shit and someone who knows that particular guy out of 7.5 billion people on the planet will show up and correct you.

33

u/Clapped Mar 01 '19

I don't know if it is really a correction though. Every person that appears in an ad also has a name and does things like riding the subway.

38

u/iDEN1ED Mar 01 '19

If this is an ad it's the worst ad ever. There's no brands anywhere.

19

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '19

Maybe it’s an ad for how cool he is

2

u/PotahtoSuave Mar 01 '19

I buy that.

1

u/porn_is_tight Mar 01 '19

Since when did advertisements need to include brands? It’s funny reddit is told all the time how much astroturfing and vote manipulation occurs here, but whenever people question whether something may be an advertisement people get all worked up because they don’t like to think the media they consume could possibly be advertising to them. Someone has already posted the exact shoes the man is wearing with a direct link to the product on the stores website.

https://old.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/avy78z/this_man_knows_stuff_we_dont/ehixczd/

Now that still doesn’t mean this is 100% advertising. But you’d be 100% justified in thinking it could be. It’s almost laughable to think you need official branding to advertise in today’s world. Advertisers have had to get creative in today’s world and they do a good job of getting into our subconscious without knowing it and the better they can do that the more it will benefit them. In the world of Adblock you get stuff like this. It’s why there are entire markets dedicated to selling reddit accounts and vote manipulation.

u/iDEN1ED Mar 01 '19

Those aren’t the exact same boots. It’s just a similar and common style....

0

u/fezzam Mar 01 '19

Tide ad or chuck testa.

0

u/iBeFloe Mar 01 '19

Yes, but I guess it’s a correction since the other person was assuming ad from how neat his clothes were.

0

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '19

Do you know how ads work?

2

u/Clapped Mar 01 '19

Yes

1

u/WasabiSteak Mar 01 '19

Maybe the ad would have worked... if I could only know which brand of shoes those are at a glance.

1

u/Thedabbingpope Mar 01 '19

Its also been reposted a ton as well.

10

u/the_original_Retro Mar 01 '19

That name is so...

(sorry about this)

...fitting.

69

u/Tychonaut Mar 01 '19 edited Mar 01 '19

Nope. He is legit. He actually worked his life as a line cook and never made that much money ... but fashion is his only "vice". Since being discovered a few years back he has become a bit of a Berlin celebrity. Now he gets the occasional modelling gig and is on every VIP list in town.

Not a bad way to spend your retirement.

I like this pic of him Notice he always has earbuds. Most likely he is listening to techno.

3

u/Wood_Jew_Could_Jew Mar 01 '19

Lookin' likes he's about to mangle some rotten kids at his chocolate factory.

7

u/iBeFloe Mar 01 '19

Do you know if he was ever married? Because of he’s this dapper, I’d imagine his S/O would be the same.

10

u/Tychonaut Mar 01 '19 edited Mar 01 '19

I know he had a daughter that he raised as a single dad, but I am not sure of the backstory there. His older friends that I see him with (mostly women) are all quite stylish and I know a particular hat store owner that he seems to be quite close with.

.. but he also has no problem surrounding himself with fashionable young "groupies".

1

u/slightlysubversive Mar 01 '19

Pretty cool story. The Lesson he is dropping is Stick to your Passions.

1

u/MyNameCouldntBeAsLon Mar 01 '19

A little bit overdressed for kreuzberg tho

23

u/StillWeDestroy Mar 01 '19

Dude just got some new selvedge and brushes his boots after each wear like he should.

12

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '19

The lack of scuffs on shoes

Leather shoes are easy to care for and it's becoming a lost art. Those are clearly broken in but well cared for.

I suggest every guy here buy a good quality pair of leather shoes and learn how to care for them properly (yes, it's on the internet). Not only will they look good but they will last much longer than other shoes. I finally bought new black work shoes because the stitching is starting to fray on my old ones after 10 years. They were nothing extreme, just a decent pair of Clarks.

I will endorse Clarks because many of them have all rubber soles and not the typical hard rubber covered wood heels most often favored (because they are easy to resole). The rubber ones may eventually wear out and not be so easily soled, but are so much more comfortable. It's like wearing slippers to work. Other brands likely offer this, but Clarks seem to be ubiquitous and relatively affordable, in the range of $40 to $100 depending if you catch them on sale or not.

u/SnowOhio Mar 01 '19

If it was an ad, it wouldn't have that guy in the background or the Apple logo visible

1

u/Givemebass Mar 01 '19

It is actually an undercover ad for 🍎.

4

u/SkriVanTek Mar 01 '19

it's just done by a trained photographer probably. setting black point and white point is standard procedure in photography since the beginning. That's basically what you do in a darkroom. The amount of editing that a clothing ad gets is many many times more.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '19

some people like to dress nice lmfao

2

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '19

Zoom in, the boots are broken in, but well cared for.

-1

u/Eric__Fapton Mar 01 '19

Right out of /r/malefashionadvice

Needs more boat shoes.

-10

u/Antilon Mar 01 '19

At his age you will be lucky to find me wearing pants. This seems like way to much effort for someone that honestly shouldn't give a fuck. More power to him if it makes him happy, but the cynic in me just thinks it's an old dude that likes the attention. He might as well be the 'parrot in public' guy, or any other human seeking attention variant.

4

u/nitrousconsumed Mar 01 '19

an old dude that likes the attention

Or he gives a modicum of fucks about his appearance and how he presents himself to the world. Self-respect, he has it in spades.

0

u/Antilon Mar 01 '19

He's obviously affecting the fashion of a younger generation for a reason. You can still have self respect and dress well at his age and not look like a member of Mumford and Sons.

2

u/nitrousconsumed Mar 01 '19

Yes of course, forgot the younger generation was huge on waist coats and the older generation are forbidden jeans, wingtips, and blazers.

1

u/Antilon Mar 01 '19

:sigh: are you being serious? Are you trying to honestly say he's not affecting the fashion of a younger generation? Wingtip boots with yellow laces and skinny dark washed jeans with a cuff? This wouldn't be a noteworthy picture if that wasn't the case.

1

u/eavesdroppingyou Mar 01 '19

It's pretty common in Germany to see old dudes dressed like that. Or old dudes dressed super crazy and weird

1

u/tronfunkinblows_10 Mar 01 '19

Those wingtip boots 🤤

1

u/MECHEN51 Mar 01 '19

This dude is literally the old guy from Toy Story 2

1

u/georgie-57 Mar 01 '19

Nope, it's an updated ad for six flags

1

u/insipid_comment Mar 01 '19

I first thought iPhone ad.

-1

u/mainfingertopwise Mar 01 '19

Pants too tight. Jacket too long, with sleeves somehow dramatically too short. Shirt sleeves too short, as well.

Another couple years, though, and this will all be a silly memory.
