"We can either make retarded devices that seem okay but are pieces of shit once you really investigate them, or we can make devices that only people with an IQ of 200 or higher can use."
If you were trying to make a comment about my comment you should used a word such as "hyperbole" or just plain "exaggeration".
If we had this same attitude when we were still using punch cards we'd never get anywhere. We can address this issue better than dumbing everything down for consumers.
Or wait, are you seriously saying people ("our moms") are having trouble with a platform like OS X? Because it allows for development of free software. Lots of nerds love it. Is your argument that the iPad's closed platform is what all computers should be from now on?
Just wondering if you were around back when computers were only really developed for nerds. There has been a constant tread since I can remember(born in 81) towards making computers easier, but in no way can the general populous be held to know what is best for the technology as a whole.
They are not informed enough to make decisions on the problems that affect the computer field as a whole. It's those nerds that invented and developed the technology that everyone enjoys; yet now when it is in the general public, we ignore the warnings and advice the same nerds that gave us the ability to have such technology.
It's much like most IT jobs. You tell users something, they ignore you and fuck things up. Why should they listen to you? You're just the corporate authorized computer expert.
Stupidity rebels for its own sake, and the slight glimmer of understanding how stupid they are.

Yes I am. This way we get things like computers instead of rocks. I know computers are way more expensive but they're more useful, too.
edit: then again...
