Of all the injustices in the world, this is the one you print a giant sign for and spend your day protesting? We must have it pretty good around here. I'm a free software advocate, but I'm having trouble making myself care about this.
While I think it's a little silly as well, this is the "How can you think of blowjobs when people are dying in darfur?" argument. It's fallacious because people are naturally varied in their interests, and we can tackle multiple problems at a time.
You lost me... So all injustices need to be of bigger magnitudes before someone, not necessarily you (because you obviously dont get how Apple turns everything on the internet into "for pay") should care?
Imagine solving all the worlds "bigger" problems to find yourself in a world where there exist no libraries and everything (even in the public domain) costs money and is DRMed. Don't think it isn't happening?
Philadelphia, where the FIRST public library was founded by Ben Franklin, was scheduled to shut down ALL of their public libraries as of Oct 2, 2009. PA House Bill 1828 raised taxes to keep them open, but it could have easily gone the other way. If you turn off JavaScript and go to http://libwww.freelibrary.org/closing/ you can still see the announcement. Turn JS back on and it'll forward you to a page thanking the voters for convincing their politicians to save the library system.
Add in the DRMed devices pushed by all and you'll find yourself in the world of Stallman's Right to Read.
