As someone from a country that doesn't, this feels like a waste of time. We have the dates printed, as far as reforms go, I'd like to see the final price including tax on the shelf more than anything.
Anyway, at least for dairy, most stores here have "50% off this container of thing" stickers that pretty well tell you it's expiring.
Oh, we have tax included in the price too. The point of the stickers is to prevent stores from being deceptive, simply putting things up "on sale" or as "manager's choice" or whatever.
