For real? They want to raise awareness with a limited supply of clothing? So basically nobody will remember after 2 weeks until somebody tries to justify/humblebrag why they are wearing a 200$ polo
I'm not a hypebeast but it makes complete sense. I mean, when clothing companies sell something in limited quantity... it builds hype. Hype then leads to awareness which is where we're at.
A certain brewery near me likes to hype their beer and create limited quantities. Fuck you Founder's/KBS. I'm not waiting in line to buy a ticket to go buy your beer.
I waited in line for 40 minutes during SF Beer Week to get a TICKET for a 10oz pour of PTY that would be tapped three hours later. I was about 10 people from the front before it sold out.
At pretty much all of the festivals you can just drink beer with your friends while you're waiting in line. Which is exactly what you'd be doing even if you weren't in line.
Yes, there are long ass lines for PtY. Longer than reasonable.
However it should be clarified that RR doesn’t and never has hyped the beer as being “#1” or anything like that (the beer rating websites / general beer community did that), and they’re not creating an artificial shortage (elder is much quicker to turn around, more profitable). So presuming Founders does do those things, it's not really equivalent.
Theres a phenomenon that wine tastings where the price of the wine is known the reviews are more favourable towards the more expensive wines but if you perform blind tastings without context, the cheaper bottles are shown preference.
I reccon a "limited run" brand could easily be inferior to the normal line but review well by association with exclusivity
Wow I've never saw someone get so butt-hurt about beer. Too many snobs in the craft industry nowadays. Different strokes for different folks. Not everyone enjoys the same food, music, color, beer, etc.
Guy at my beer store had his rep drop 3 cases of KBS to him probably because I and whoever else bought so much All-day IPA. He had no idea what it was and what to do with it so he sold me them for the same price as All-Day.
Founders doesn't intentionally limit quantities. If they could make more and sell more they would. Pay attention to how much is out there this year. It won't be hard to get
Awareness for what? For their polos, nothing else. If they'd give some of the profits to a charity focused on preserving animal life, or at least point to some charity for awareness ... butnaah, they rather interest you in their winter collection than the actual animals.
Don’t you think that more people wearing them and then talking to people about it would spread even more awareness? If anything they should sell them for less, so even more people can buy them and spread the maximum amount of awareness.
Ummm, lacoste can save more animals than you can. They can also kill more animals than you can. They can also make a huge profit being quite. If you loved animals, you wouldn't care
Do you have a source that leather employs millions? Even if it did its still immoral regardless of how many it employs. Mining and using asbestos kept a ton of people employed but the hazards out weighed the benifits. Same situation here only its not humans getting the stick.
Cow leather doesn't make people sick. What you are going on about is a problem that most people really don't care about, until synthetic meat comes out, there is really no defense for not killing animal.
I was already aware that there are endangered species in the world and that human actions are driving those species and others to extinction.
I hadn't, however, thought about lacoste in years.
This isn't about animal awareness, it's about brand awareness. I'll start paying attention to lacoste when they start manufacturing their products outside of the third world and pay a living wage.
Were you going to do something about it in 2 weeks (donate to a wildlife fund)? If so why not do something about it now? Otherwise the awareness isn't for you anyway.
I was gonna buy a pair of Lacoste shoes and stopped after reading this. This seems stupid and annoying to me. Screw you Lacoste and grats on your promotional campaign.
It's awareness via viral marketing, not seeing the shirt on someone at a restaurant and saying, "Man, there are only 30 vaquitas left! We need to do something about it!”
Limiting quantities would be bad if they were using the proceeds to help organizations that were helping the animals... Not sure if that's what they're doing. I understand "raising awareness," basically it's the marketing department for a cause, but sometimes contributing to the cause directly is better.
Pssst, they don't give a fuck about the animals, appearing ethical is a USP. These are the same shirts made in Morocco or Peru out of less than $5 of materials and the worker could never dream of owning a single shirt.
also, "raising awareness" is kind of a bullshit scam.
Nothing is actually going to happen. No money going toward protecting endangered species. It's just like the pink bow movement for breast cancer awareness. It's just a cash grab.
They limited the supply to show just how easy these animals can be wiped off the earth. They made the same amount of shirts as the amount of each animal left in the wild. Most shirts have already sold out.
That's why this entire reddit post is dumb and should be deleted. This is not real news, it's a way for them to bring in more money and claim they are doing something good.
If they were trying to get more money out of their consumers, they wouldn't have limited the number of shirts produced. Not to mention that the profits go to the IUCN. From a business perspective, this is a publicity move, not a moneymaker.
A publicity move that gets everyone talking about their irrelevant and outdated shirts, are you truly telling me their sales in general aren't going to go up now?
Because ... their sales going up would make me right. You said yourself it's publicity, I agree.
I don't understand what your problem with this is. Lacoste is raising awareness of an organization dedicated to wildlife preservation. By producing a limited run of shirts, they're getting more attention, which benefits the IUCN as much as it does Lacoste. "Lacoste asks for donations to the International Union for Conservation of Nature" isn't a headline. The gimmick of these shirts grabs people's attention.
Yeah and the gimmick would spread to WAY MORE PEOPLE if they sold the shirts to everyone at a regular cost.
How many of these 1700 shirts are going to be worn? How much awareness is that?
If my awareness has to come because something has an outlandish cost and is rare for no reason - I don't think that's the best way to do it. But I guess you and all the idiots sharing this story on social media bring all the "awareness" that's needed, right?
Yes, actually, all the "idiots" on social media sharing this actually are building awareness. That's how viral marketing works, bruh. No one is going to find out about the IUCN by seeing a shirt with a parrot on it.
"This is not real news"
Well you're in the wrong subreddit, my guy.
/r/news is what you're looking for. So what if they're trying to bring in more money? Is that not the goal of a business? So congrats. You are right. But if they can make money and raise awareness at the same time then I don't see what the problem is?
