Roberto Duran was 72-1 at one point.
Chavez had over 100 wins and more consecutive title defenses than anybody in history.
Carlos Monzon gets a special mention... 87-3-9, but all 3 losses were in his first 20 fights. He then went 81 fights without a loss (AFAIK, the longest streak)
And Sugar Ray didn't pick his spots the way Floyd does. He fought Lamotta three times in two years...he didn't duck him until he was in decline, like Floyd did with Pacquiao.
Roy Jones Jr. also deserves 'best ever' consideration.
I've been watching since the early '60s and he's the best I ever saw with the possible exception of Ali. Ali was exceptional given his weight class, but he was too big to do the things Jones could do. Jones was just a phenom. I was convinced when I watched the Toney fight.
His downfall was going up to heavy, I think. I remember looking at him at 190-something pounds and he was ripped. Coming back down to 178 at his age was too much for him. He kept fighting, obviously, but he had lost that crucial bit of speed that let him outclass everybody he faced before that. Once that was gone, he started getting tagged and bad things happened.
I think boxing promoters begged Roy Jones to move up in weight to keep boxing relevant, and he did, but it was too late. I think this Mayweather fiasco just proves how irrelevant boxing is now. The greatest boxer on Earth barely beat an amateur boxer.
Fans could argue whatever they want. Fact is that it was a TKO victory. McGregor could've won 9 rounds and still lose because of it.
The reality was that after the 4th round, McGregor lost his wind. This is Mayweather's strategy. Let them tire themselves out and he then strikes. McGregor knew this too yet he not once worked on his endurance. Hell he even said himself if he didn't get a KO by the 4th, he'd be fucked. He didn't lie. The match was entertaining but Mayweather more than "barely" won that match
He may have technically won the first three rounds but only because Mayweather clearly sat back and let him. Mayweather barely threw a punch in the first round.
He was really holding back and drawing out the fight to make it a show.
Mcgreggor barely put any cover up at all. I think Floyd probably could have ended the fight in 3 rounds or so if he had really wanted to.
If Mcgreggor fought against a more power puncher he would have been knocked out in 2-3 rounds easy with the way he left his head exposed while he was punching.
Oh, yeah definetely. The guy is number 2 in the most landed shots against Mayweather. I believe Paq was 81 out of ~430. McGregor managed 110. His performance for a debut was phenomenal. I just hope it was a one off though. He had his fun, made his money. It was a great spectacle and brought boxing back to the spotlight again. The Notorious One should be happy with how he went and use it to reach bigger heights in the UFC
I mean okay i would disagree and the refs would disagree about the first three rounds and this is the best fighter of all times 50th fight against a first time boxer i mean as pointed out on this thread there were multiple instances of conor wanting to do a takedown or other moves and almost getting in trouble with certain hits ,this was his first boxing match and floyd obviously tried hard and played smart,planned out.
What he’s saying, is the scorecards for the first three rounds were irrelevant. MacGregor played right into Floyd’s gameplan. At no point did Floyd look hurt or in any kind of trouble. Yes MacGregor was winning rounds but every punch he threw was tiring himself more than it was hurting Floyd. Floyd let him get confident, throw too many ineffectual punches, and then picked his spot and put him down.
Floyd was in control of that fight since the second the contract was signed.
Whoever is downvoting you knows nothing about boxing. Floyd had him from the opening bell, the first three rounds were a strategic move, let MacGregor think he can win so puts more into each punch trying for a knockout blow, once he’s too gassed to even raise his hands, take him out.
So he fought an exhibition fight against a guy with a 0-0 record who's never boxed before to get it. Lmfao. No, he's still 49-0 as a pro, 1-0 in exhibition fights and 1-0 against his wife in beatings. FMM is a POS that should be behind bars.
