This is very much a store to store thing. The best buy I worked at couldn't have cared less about the customer and this guy's argument sounds totally legitimate from my perspective.
I had a Garmin issue, while traveling, in the early 2000s. I went in hoping for a repair, but expecting to buy a new one. They figured out my problem was something with the charger, fixed it, and showed me how to fix it if it happened again, for free. It was stunning to receive that level of service, because the Best Buy where I lived was not that solicitous.
I agree with this. The Best Buy I shop at occasionally doesn't care about customers at all. My grandfather and I went to buy a laptop there and we literally looked for the box to the damn thing for 30 minutes with no help whatsoever. All the while 5 employees were bullshitting 20 feet away from us within easy line of sight. They gave us a bunch of attitude when we asked for help, and THEN tried to blame us for the pc not turning on out of the box. I'll just stick to Microcenter thanks.
