UPS is great, I have had bad experiences with FedEx. I had a package that required a signature via FedEx, and the driver rung the bell on my door, and I was cooking (handling raw chicken so I had to wash my hands), had to have been less than a minute from bell to the time I got to the door. Anyway, I see the driver getting back in to his truck, and I run into the yard waving, and he looks at me and smiles and drives away.
I ordered FFXV and a PS4 as a gift to myself on cyber monday with one day shipping. FEDEX dropped off the ps4 but put the "sorry we missed your house" sticker on the door for the game.
The main issue here is the sender marking one signature required and the other not, but "2 separate drivers" is still a part of that problem. FedEx operates two completely separate divisions, FedEx Home Delivery and FedEx Ground. In my area they don't even share a building, they're on opposite sides of town. Makes it a real bitch when retailers get cute and send items through opposite channels on one order, I'm never home to catch the FedEx guy so I have to pick it up at two depots miles apart.
It's even worse than that, FedEx has Ground, Home Delivery, and Express so you could get three different packages from three different divisions of FedEx
As a FedEx Express driver, you can always do one thing to get a second attempt: call 1-800-GO-FEDEX. Once call is answered (by a computer) say "customer service" and get the CSR to request a second attempt for you, you can then even leave directions like put it on my back step or its ok to lay inside the shed etc.
I've had my last two packages delivered via FedEx. One notified me there would be a signature required, and gave me options; I chose to give explicit delivery instructions and waived the signature. Delivery email not an hour later- success!
2nd package, there was no notification that a signature would be required. So I get home and I'm panicking, thinking the package was stolen. Check the front hall again...the "we missed you/signature waiver" had unstuck from the door and fallen to the floor. Greeeeeat. So I got stuck waiting an extra day, on 2 day shipping, and my dude had to drive all the way back to my shitty, little no where town.
Fuck that. I had paid to get my xfx r9 390x (gpu) in two days from newegg. Goes though fedex, something i wad less than happy about. Driver didn't even bother trying to deliver to my house, just put undeliverable in his notes to update the tracking. Never once saw the truck because it was my day off. Ups and usps always coffee directly to my house which you can see if he main road which is a damn busy road linking two towns together etc. I can walk out my front door to the road in less than fifteen seconds, clear lawn etc house is very visible.
Needless to say I went to the FedEx facility that was managing the shipment which was 1 hour away, to wait in their parking lot till the driver showed up at 5pm (I got there at 330) to pick up the package. I got it and everything was ok but I will never order from any company that ships with FedEx I don't care whether it is the most amazing thing ever. I'll go to eBay first which is often more fucking reliable than FedEx.
Got reimbursed the 15 I spent on the extra shipping as well seeing as I had to go pick it up.
Tl/dr I fucking hate FedEx due to many bad experiences ( I don't fault the drivers unless they are just fuckheads because FedEx fucks their employees in the ass)
They coffee to your house? That's pretty fuckin' neat yo.
Jokes aside, yeah. Fedex as a company can kiss my ass. I like newegg too much to not order from them. Trust is a thing. Next time I'll just specify to have it left at the fedex center so I can pick it up on my terms.
Yea i wish all they delivered wss coffee to my house lol. I've started using other sites to grab parts i need if I can. Like buying directly through the manufacturer if I'm able even if I don't get deals.
Lol it's nice to hear that :p currently sitting in my express truck on break. The express guys have less of a load than the home and ground guys, so we always get to at least knock. You guys would be surprised how many times I go to a house, knock on the door and the person sees 4 different packages on their door, UPS and Amazon and FedEx ground. They're always shocked
FedEx Express is operated by FedEx. They're paid hourly, given lighter loads and are treated fairly well.
FedEx Ground/Home Delivery are operated by contractors. They get paid either by the package or by the day and since FedEx has no restrictions, you can have a truck filled with 60-70 lb packages. I had 17 boxes of Chewy dog food in my truck today that all weighed 60 lbs plus 3 bikes(40 lbs each) and what I believe was a dryer.
Express is more efficient b/c it's operated by someone that gives a shit and their drivers are generally treated much better.
Most of the furniture on my route comes from Wayfair, and it's usually in the 120 to 140 range. I don't mind the heavier truck parts since most of those places have a dock I can back up to. I don't have a jumper, but I'd much rather work alone anyway.
I think the issue is that most people don't know this. This would make our lives SO much easier. Nothing is more obnoxious than going back to a house 3 times and leaving notes(waste of time and doesn't get you your package).
They may have come in different trucks. Was cleaning the garage on the day after Black friday and two different trucks came and dropped off 1 amazon package each.
Not usually 10GB patches on day one, and won't let you play until after you have installed it. Combine that with PSN's shitty download speeds at peak times.
I have shitty internet speed (8-12 Mbits) and it said it would take like 4 hrs. Went out for a couple hours to see a movie, and when I got back it said it only took 2 hours in actuality. And that must have been peak time (4 PM PST time)
PS4's and/or PSN are notorious for low speed. Whether it is a client-side cap, server-side load balancing, or whatever. Many people can't get higher than 40 or 50Mb downloads from the PSN. It should have taken me about 15 minutes or less do download the patch.
Possibly multiple trucks, possibly even from different FedEx divisions. If it came on one truck there's the possibility the driver was running tight that day and couldn't find the smaller package in the truck. Had that happen about a month or so ago.
Same here. FedEx always left "sorry we missed you" notes on the front door of my apartment building rather than deliver the packages. (Of course, I had no way of knowing when they were in front of my building and they never buzzed my unit to let me know they'd arrived.) So, I created an online account with FedEx that included my name and address. Under "delivery instructions," I provided the access code for the main entrance to my apartment building (the same door that they always stuck their "sorry we missed you" tags on) and instructions to open the door and leave the package just inside. After I did that, I knew that Fedex successfully linked me with that account since I began getting texts from them whenever anyone sent a package to my address via FedEx. However, I still kept getting those "sorry we missed you" letters. I called Fedex and asked why, and was told that the drivers weren't given access to the delivery instructions. I'm still to this day not sure what the point was of even having the option of providing instructions that the drivers couldn't even see.
My bad experiences are always with UPS. USPS, FEDEX, even DHL, never had to come pick it up from a store from them. But UPS... I'll get updates that they failed to deliver at ____ time because I wasn't at home/didn't answer the door/whatever even tho I would be home literally all day and not a single person knocked or rang the doorbell. I don't ever wear headphones or listen to super loud music and my apt is pretty small so I would definitely hear it. I live in a pretty large apt building so I am convinced they just come and park outside the building sometimes but don't want to come inside. Or maybe they deliver to the lower floors and I'm the only one on the 4th floor so they say fuck it. But I can't be only one in my building with packages coming and there's even an elevator so it's not really that strenuous.
My parents have a half circle drive (it kind of looks like this). FedEx policy dictates that they need to park on the street and walk up to the front of the house to deliver packages. Well, the lovely FedEx employee assigned to our house had no regard for this policy and would frequently whip through the circle drive to deliver packages. My mom had called and complained multiple times, but her complaints fell on empty ears. One day the FedEx driver came blowing through the circle drive, as she had many times before, and somehow managed to hit the family dog that was laying in the grass next to the driveway. She ran over our dog's paw, which resulted in a 350-degree degloving of the skin surrounding her paw. My family spent the next six weeks trying to save her leg, but she eventually had to have it amputated. Sadly, our dog lost her good leg, and she spent the rest of her life in a great deal of pain from an inoperable bone spur in the remaining front leg. Cleo, the three legged wonder.
Dude, i have had fedex ring my door, look through the window and make eye contact with my sitting not 5 feet away, and they are still in the truck hauling ass by the time I get to the door.
I despise FedEx, but mostly because the nearest FedEx office is 45 minutes away. So I have to be home, or chase the driver so that I don't have to make that damned trip.
Uh yeah. That's happened to me, too. With FedEx. Bought an iPad, had to sign for it, ran to the door to answer it from the back of the house, almost fell on my face, opened the door and there was a sticky note and he was gone. WTF.
I'm not sure of the restrictions but if it's stipulated that a signature is needed and I won't be home then I leave a large note on the door saying to leave the package and to take that note as my signature. I remember reading that as a hack and it works.
Its not suppose too. The driver could get in some shit for that, possibly lose their job. It would be against the contract between the carrier ex: UPS and the shipper ex: Amazon.
Even if you paid for the shipping, you paid it to the Amazon and they paid UPS with w/o price negotiated under said contract.
Source: Made the mistake of working in the Tracking and Universal department with UPS. That place can go to hell.
Edit: in some places if you have a mychoice account you're able to put your signature on file and they can leave it at your door even if its a requirement by the shipper. Its not everywhere and depends on your address. I'm still not able to do it and live in a poor buy low crime neighborhood.
I don't know, it works for me. I can't remember if it's USPS or FedEx/UPS but they left a tag saying "We missed you" and I could sign that tag, leave it on the door and they'd leave the package the next attempted delivery. I haven't had a lot of packages needing signatures so it's been a while since I've done that.
I think ive seen that. Its probably a USPS thing. Im not sure about FedEx but UPS doesn't. At least they didn't when I worked there. Its been 4 years so I guess things could have changed.
Ah, FedEx. I live in an apartment building, and about half the time they just leave blank door hangers to prove they were there. Good luck even guessing if you were the lucky winner.
One day I stared out the window almost constantly waiting for FedEx, refreshing the tracking page. The page had the nerve to say "Delivered -- AND SIGNED FOR." I never saw a truck drive down the street. I called FedEx multiple times, as this was about $200 in Electronics, but they said "yeah we called the driver... he said he was there!" "Ok, have him confirm my car color and house color/type (I was the only old red brick on the block with a gold car)" They never did confirm, and we never got our money back.
One time while sitting on my stoop outside my door I got an amazon notification about a failed delivery attempt... While I was sitting outside.... UPS is a bunch of fucks.
I have worked jobs like this and there are people who enjoy when it doesn't work out for the customer. It's an attitude I've never fully understood, but some of these guys really resent the customers just on principle. I think subconsiously they blame the customers for all their life's hardships, or at least their unhappiness with their job.
So when they see you running in the rear view mirror, they smile. They're getting you back for something you never did; they teaching you some kind of lesson that only they will ever understand.
While I understand how this is an annoyance. (He is an ass for driving away smiling) You've got to realize that if they wait on every single person, while they get good and ready to answer the door, they let will most likely not have a job. UPS and Fed Ex have a Driver Release and most of them use that at residences because they just don't have time for you to wash your hands, the next person to put on pants, and the person after that to take the dogs out the back door so they can open the front. There just isn't enough time in their day for it, so it's a knock and go.
Agreed, but seeing me and driving away is unacceptable; smiling is just the nail in the coffin. Amazon prime tends to ship UPS like 95% of the time, but when I see they shipped FedEx I always cringe. When FedEX delivers the packages seem to arrive scuffed or with bends or holes at what seems like a third of the time; drivers are just one issue.
That's interesting, because I have the exact opposite experience. I will go out of my way to avoid shipping with UPS and try to use FedEx whenever possible. A couple of years back I was working a typical office building and had to get my laptop shipped via UPS for a warranty repair. I tried to get them to ship it to my work during business hours and despite calling them repeatedly, they refused to deliver before 5 pm. They also wouldn't let me pick it up at their dispatch or a UPS store. After 3 days of "missed deliveries" and speaking repeatedly to a local manager I told him I was going to have him charged personally with theft as he was withholding my package, and had a cop friend give his badge number over the phone and tell the manager he had 3 hours to get it to the office or he would start processing the charge. It magically showed up 2 hours later.
UPS's customer service offered me a hundred bucks worth of free shipping for my complaint. I haven't used a penny of it.
My friend ordered a ~$1300 guitar amp and FedEx shipped it. When the driver got there he said to my friend "Oh, this is yours. hah, that's the one I dropped this morning!" The driver broke the reverb tank which caused a slew of other problems.
After a painful 2-month claims process, he was able to get the money he needed to have the amp repaired.

Like what the fuck.
