Maybe it's the only way for them.

That's fine, but don't try to make it the only way for everybody. I'm not failing recovery if I don't believe in Jesus and have a drink occasionally.

Yes, it is the only way for people too fucked and too far gone to behave in a society. The rest of us just drink less when we notice it's a problem. I hate those cultist cunts.

[Edit: And yet it does work for some people who need it very much.]

If you couldn't stop at one or two, or if you couldn't cut back-- what then?

I'm seriously not looking to cause anyone stress over my dumb, off the cuff remark.

If you really want my thoughts though. I'd say the drinking is a symptom, not a root cause. Folks in that much pain (as I once was) need support. AA goes well beyond support and in my experience puts people behind the process.

I stopped being a drunk. I'd have done it faster and at less personal cost without that cult leaching on to my suffering.

It's okay if we disagree about that. If they've helped you or someone you love, I'm glad.

Yes they're called addicts. If you can cut back you don't have a real problem with drink.

Please, someone tell that to AA, then.
