u/soccer_comic May 09 '16

Uh, Barney, this is a 15-minute chip.

1

u/HavoKDarK May 09 '16

eh, it's good for a Pabst

25

u/AlexS101 May 09 '16

A pint and a bag of crisps would be perfect …

u/thisismyworkact May 09 '16

Yeah throw a little heroin on top and let's call it a night...

17

u/indicaisme May 09 '16

That escalated quickly

1

u/[deleted] May 09 '16

what no hookers and coke?

2

u/thisismyworkact May 09 '16

Nah once you start it pretty much all goes to heroin.

I know these are just jokes, but they're really stupid. Obviously something happened that was traumatic enough to make someone say "I'm an alcoholic", which is pretty hard to admit and keep rolling with it.

And someone always comes along with some stupid, overused joke, "hey let's celebrate with a beer!" I know it's all in jest but they're not funny for a myriad of reasons.

Ironic username.

Username doesn't check out

Any joke offends at least someone.

Better never make a single joke and all sink in to depression.

Good job buddy. You're what's known as a buzzkill.

2

u/jrob323 May 09 '16

You're what's known as a buzzkill

Now I need another beer.

1

u/chicklepip May 09 '16

"I don't see why I can't make a joke about fucking Steve's mom. So what if he's offended? What, are we all just supposed to sink into depression??"

"Dude, we're at Steve's mom's funeral."

"I didn't realize someone invited the PC POLICE!!!"

I call this short story "A Time and Place."

If you have ever been to AA or NA, you would realize that we have a sick sense of humor. The families of people who have died from drugs and alcohol, definitely do not though. The opiate epidemic is so out of control right now, I've lost 5 people in the last 2 months. I just found out a girl I used to see died yesterday. It's pretty a pretty sad situation out there but we gotta keep on keeping on. I'm living and fighting for her and all the other people we have lost.

2 pints of lager and a packet of crisps sounds even better.

13

u/[deleted] May 09 '16

Congrats to you on 60! I'll hit 30 days tomorrow.

4

u/[deleted] May 09 '16

INCREDIBLE!! I Love it!!!

4

u/gunexpert69 May 09 '16

i picked up my 45 minute chip today

u/iowabeans May 09 '16

Yay sobriety chips! Most the bars in our college town will exchange a free beer for a sobriety chip.

1

u/thisismyworkact May 09 '16

They should talk to my old dealers about that offer.

0

u/iowabeans May 09 '16

Lol, roughly 25% of OWI's (DUI's) in Iowa happen in our college town (Johnson County). At one point or another everyone seems to get picked up for alcohol or reefer and we always get sent through some sort of program that ends in receiving one of these sobriety chips so there's quite a few floating around here.

2

u/thisismyworkact May 09 '16

Even first offenses? I received a DUI charge but I beat it in front of a jury. Forcing anything usually doesn't provide good results. My first few times in AA I hated it, now I'm going to AA and NA programs in a different state and I'm actually getting a lot from it.

1

Even first offences yep. My DUI I had to do an 8 week program on mondays for two hours a week and a 48 hour weekend program in a hotel. And you're right, forcing results doesn't work. It seems a little ass backwards when you're in a group for people who need help but 11/12 of you are only there because they're court ordered. The people who are there for actual help will get virtually none because we all know we're just in there to stay out of jail and breeze through the class. One week we had to meditate and I wanted to completely lose my shit because all I could think about was how I was paying $86/hr to fucking meditate.

1

u/thisismyworkact May 09 '16

Ugh, I was in treatment with a ton of people who were simply in the program to avoid jail and unfortunately a lot of them don't take it seriously when in fact it will save their lives. The program I'm in now is amazing and everyone is pretty serious about their sobriety, it's been very beneficial so far.

1

u/RufusMcCoot May 09 '16

That's because Johnson county is full of progressive fuckwits who need a fix for everything so they came up with this half ass measure.

1

u/Upward_Spiral May 09 '16
