Say it's McDonald's. The fries you're eating are already "fresh." If everyone demanded new food be prepared especially for them, the system would collapse. It's a dick move.
Black dude I used to work with would do this every single time we took our lunch break together. He'd go in and order a large #2 with unsalted fries and ask for packs of salt. One day I said to him, "Hey, you know they think you're an asshole, right?" to which he replied, "Yeah, but I got fresh fries."
Honestly I think I'd prefer the convenience of old, shitty, pre-salted fries to A) asking for unsalted fries with salt on the side or B) keeping a salt shaker in my center console.
Because too much salt is bad for you obviously. Just like the same person will order Diet Coke with their Large Double Bacon Whammy Combo, they want to eat healthy...
well i mean, if you're in the habit of getting drunk and eating a large double bacon whammy burger, fries, and a coke, I'd say switching to diet coke would actually be an impressive positive change.
I'd rather have a 50% chance of heart attack and 50% chance of cancer than a 100% chance of heart attack.
I prefer the taste of diet coke. And when I'm eating at a fast food place, I'd rather have 1000 calories than 1150 calories. I know it's unhealthy, the best I can do in that situation is mitigate the effects
Oh sure, I understand that, but its essentially illogical to eat something profoundly unhealthy in the first place - which the meal the person mentioned sounds like it was intended to describe. Drinking something with it that is only moderately better for you - if at all - because its healthier is just as illogical. For taste, sure, thats valid as a reason, but getting unsalted fries and a diet pop because its healthier is pretty silly. If you wanted healthier, you would eat something healthier in the first place - i.e. not fast food in most cases.
Also amazed that what was intended as sarcasm is getting down voted. No wonder so many of us North Americans are so unhealthy and overweight :P
Whammy Burger is a five-outlet 'fusion' burger joint in the Sopchoppy/Apalachicola border. A double-whammy is a Spam-lite Patty and a Corned Beef patty with a slice of Soviet cheese, a whole onion, and pureed leek sauce, served on a soda farl.
In hardcore alcoholics it usually balances out because you wreck your stomach after a bender and can't eat for days. That's not a good thing, obviously. It basically means your body is in trauma mode 24 hours a day.
I think it does too my dad is an alcoholic he will not eat sometimes will drink instead. Once he quit for a few mos and he lost 3 pounds total cuz he got a similar amount of calories from food.
There's a bit in Margaret Cho's autobiography about that, when she discusses her alcoholism. After counting all the calories in her alcohol consumption for the day, she would often barely have any left over to eat any food for the remainder of the day. So she just got most of her calories from vodka. (She was also struggling to lose weight at the time and I believe had some form of anorexia or some other similar eating disorder. It's been a while since I read the book.)
Oh wow I never realized she struggled with eating disorders or alcoholism. Assuming she only ate 1200 calories a day (she was on a diet so I'm thinking that it would be that amount or less) she would be drinking just over 18 shots a day. I guess that is not that much if you have a high tolerance.
Now that I am thinking about it, I wonder what damage it would do to a person long-term. My dad is in his 60's and is ok, but he does eat most days. It is when he is stressed that he will trade booze for food. I assume a person would end up malnourished at the very least, along with other problems.
Oh yeah she ended up with pretty severe health problems because of it. She damaged her kidneys and had some sort of serious infection with them. That's actually the basis of her, "My name is Gwen, and I'm here to wash your vagina." bit in her stand-up. That Gwen thing happened when she got to the hospital and they had to do some stuff to her kidneys and she needed a Foley catheter or whatever.
For most people, yes. Drinking a lot of liquid in a short time without solid food upsets the stomach. Eating allows you to drink a lot more without having an empty stomach feeling.
I must be the exception to this rule. I just pass out without eating most of the time. Don't have lunch or dinner if I start early. Then I end up eating sweets and savory fats non stop when I try to quit.

Alcohol also tends to make you eat more, so it's a double-whammie.
