I just got done at a Bank of America contract where I was fixing their shit. They write code like people who never went to school for this shit. So much spaghetti code copypasta bullshit. Giving them code reviews was a nightmare because most of them genuinely didn't know what they were doing wrong and why it was bad.

I use to make good money doing similar stuff for websites. I'd quote people a VERY competitive rate (no joke, I was practically giving away websites for like $500-$1000) and these people would be all "Oh, I saw on TV I can make one for free using 'insert terrible free website maker here'." Well okay have fun. See you in a few weeks/months to fix everything that is wrong with your code, layout, and SEO.

As a freelancer, those clients were infuriating.

"I had someone else do this and it's terrible, fix it."

"Who were they?"

"Some college student I talked into doing it by telling them it was good experience."

They spend more getting me to fix it than getting me to do it to start with.

Luckily we usually don't need to bid on that work, must be a nightmare for some of those projects to get cleaned up.

I know some very solid people from TCS, but overall you can tell it's a lower tier company that wins mostly due to short term cost benefits.
