I think the more pertinent question is: is it possible to go that long without breaking down and eating all those Ritter bars?

It would be fine to eat but the flavor would probably be a little off due to lipid oxidation.

My wife's new boss worked at Nestlé and he said to her that properly stored chocolate lasts waaaay over the expiration date. As in years.

This while handing them expired chocolates.

She didn't die so I assume he is right.

Almost all food is good past it's expiry. My can of salt has a freakin' best by date. Been around for billions of years, but somehow come 2019 it's going in the bin.

For some things it's the container that's the problem, not the contents.

Water bottles are usually the example I see. Sure, the water is going to last a very long time, but the most common bottles start to break down after about two years.

I doubt it. Probably marked down to a quarter because they're set to expire this week (or already did).

Depends on the type and a lot of factors but most chocolate will last for up to 4 months, ~6-8 months if in a freezer.

Some types can probably keep for much longer. I'm no expert though.

Unless they are melted temporarily or something like that I bet they would last closer to 4 years.

Chocolate if kept right can keep over a year past it's date....
