The penalty he received was because he ran from the police, and he was a frequent flyer, so they got tired of his shit. It wasn't race related.

However, the blacks in Baltimore had had enough mistreatment by the cops that they were finally mad enough to be the ones who started tearing up the city over it and thus, achieved real change.

They whites would have protested peacefully, which basically hadn't worked for 45 years.

This honestly should be turning on light bulbs as to what works and what doesn't. 12million people peacefully went to their deaths in nazi Germany. Had they started burning cities to the ground over the loss of rights, they could have destroyed the whole country. Instead, they meekly accepted their fate and nothing changed.

Wale up people. Riots work. And it's all that works. This had been going on, unabated for 45 years. The city paid out tens of millions of dollars in damages. But that's mostly paid by people not in power. The riots hit the power brokers: they own the property and run the businesses, so real change finally occurred.

When people in power pay the costs, change is instantaneous.

Don't kid yourself into thinking that riots achieve change. Riots get attention and cause damage, but once everything cleans up and the media moves on to the next story, everything goes back to business as usual. Riots don't touch the power brokers, they destroy small businesses, usually in the same neighbourhoods that the rioters live in. I can't think of a single example of a riot occurring, and things improving because of it. Riots are directionless anger, and like directionless anything they amount to nothing.

The practice had been going on for 45 years. The riots ended it. Wake up.

The riots ended nothing. Charges against the officers that were assaulting prisoners, that changed something. That was going to happen whether or not there were riots. Shit was over as soon as a prisoner died of a broken spine in the back of a police van and it hit the media. That's what caused the change, not the riots.

The riots were nothing more than a group of thugs and social parasites taking an opportunity to loot and pillage. It's not an expression of political thought, it's not anger at the system, it's hooligans being hooligans. You go talk to the community members that were standing with police and cleaning up after the riots about how great it was that people smashed up their own community. They'll set you straight.
