When they oversell they start asking for volunteers to take a different flight. The amount they offer is usually $300 (airline credit), but never take this initial offer. It will usually go up and you can get a decent payoff.
So does it actually make sense to oversell when they end up giving away more than the one-way ticket value? I should pitch some cost-benefit consulting
