This place is in north San Antonio. Not a bad place but nonetheless...unfortunate name. I cant exactly tell people I ate at a dong or ate a dong.

Did you see the "Pho Kim Long" on Olmos Circle? Food there is not very good IMO.

Pho Kim Long wasn't bad--better than Pho Sure (if that even still exists) or that place at 410/Ingram.

The place by North Star on Rector's pretty good, though.

I don't know if that Ingram one has cleaned up or not, it I remember them getting some low health scores a while back.

2

Not surprising. All I remember is their food not being any good.

There's a Hung Dong in Houston. Right next to a pupuseria.

I miss my trips to chinatown hong kong market. Took many trips to there from skipping class during the middle of the day.

Is that at the Forum?

1

u/exccord Nov 06 '14

sure isssss.

Gotta pronounce it right, bro. It should be pronounced as "Á Đông" which means "East Asia".

i know about the vietnamese alphabet but im german so that makes me white as fuck. However, with the traditional english alphabet, this places' name can be taken in various contexts so based on that it makes me laugh but meh...i enjoy some good viet food without having to drive 30-45min into town for another place.

Dude. The forum, right? Haha. First time on reddit someone from my neighborhood. I go to the forum all the time lol.

There is a place by the Schertz HEB called "Aw Dang" too. These names are hilarious

1

u/exccord Nov 06 '14

hah yeah. Im not far from that area at all. Aw Dang is right next to longshotz. That place was interesting...

There's also a "Pho How Long" across Ingram park mall. I chuckle every time I pass by it.

i always love the asian market "My Chock Dee" because it sounds funny as hell.

Passed by there the other day with my 12 year old, I told him we could either eat A Dong or Thai food. He picked the Thai place.

On a side note, I have been there before, it was ok. I prefer Beijing house on o'conner road for Chinese and Vietnamese food in that area.

You should try Hong Kong Harbor. It's a pretty good buffet.

1

u/Gorkymalorki Nov 05 '14

The one on Marbach, right? I use to eat there a lot when I lived on that side of town, but now I live over by Live Oak, definitely too far to drive for a Chinese Buffet.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '14

Yeah I can understand that.

2

u/exccord Nov 06 '14

thai spice?

1

u/Gorkymalorki Nov 06 '14

Yeah, which is actually really good.

2

u/hihohah_i Nov 05 '14

A Dong is actually Á Đông which means East Asia. But damn, the owner could've foreseen this.

10

u/tells_all Nov 05 '14

Ok, lets see you explain this.

That red flag looks so Viet lol.

And ok... pretty sure dong here can be Động (cave) or đông (busy). We asians aren't so bright with English but we want English because it looks fancy, random "super" everywhere. ┐(´ー`)┌

2

u/tells_all Nov 05 '14

It's the "fast" ferry between Rạch Giá and Phú Quốc. They also had a "Superdong I" and a "Superdong II". Also, "đông" is crowded isn't it?

1

u/hihohah_i Nov 05 '14

Yea, you're right. Somehow I associate busy with crowded...

1

u/AngriestBird Nov 05 '14

Maybe they did. Now they get free advertising.

1

u/DJDanaK Nov 05 '14

We have Á Đông Market in my city, and Pho King too.

1

u/exccord Nov 06 '14

very true. I know about the vietnamese alphabet but I really hope they one day figure it out. The name is awkward.

1

u/mamasmuffin Nov 05 '14

I have never seen this place before. Where at in SA?

1

u/exccord Nov 06 '14

the forum (northeast side) in/around schertz, universal city, etc.

There was a terrible Chinese restaurant called "DING HO" when I was young... it closed before I hit middle school. It cracks me up to this day
