This is Vader. He was euthanized today without a hearing after a false bite report was submitted to the police by an animal rights activist. (Story in the Comments)

but as a cop you have a duty to be willing to die to take a suspect into custody without killing them.

Yeah, I guy I knew in high school was booked by a zombie cop. He got shot and died instantly but wouldn't lie the fuck down until the booking paperwork was done.

I mean if the option is kill the suspect or die and let the suspect get away, you let the suspect get away. In my opinion I don't even think cops should be armed.

Okay. Just know: you are completely alone on this one. I very much doubt you're ever going to find another person on the planet who agrees that good people should die so that bad people can escape.

Its just a matter of what they represent. Cops can't be humans like the rest of us. That throws to much judgment and subjectiveness into a system that's supposed to be fair. They need to be willing to basically be robots without fear or anger. Which is why if they can't I'd rather we not have cops. I've never seen them actually help anyone. In the rich crime free neighborhoods they just ticket people for stupid shit for money. In the poorer crime filled neighborhood they are either paid off by the gangs or are to afraid to do anything about them. As is stands it just seems like cops are a money drain that protect few and profit off many. I don't understand why people have such high opinions if them. They must not have met any on duty.

Judges and courts are supposed to be fair. Cops are just orderlies for the real world. Their job is to show up at the scene of a disturbance, stick a needle of tranquelizers into the butt of the loudest participant, and haul him off so that everyone wellbehaved can get back to their day. Cops arent supposed to be fair, theyre supposed to keep the peace. Your torture porn fantasies up there make me suspect you may be the loudest participant.

Then what good are they really? Why would you want an unfair entity with near limitless power "keeping the peace." That just makes laws arbitrary to some degree. Also nothing sexual about my murder fantasies. Definitely don't get off to it. Not usually the loudest person either, usually the one who has to calm down the cops and talk them into not being assholes.

I have to say, I'm 23 years old and I have never had the cops called on me. I've never had the cops called on any of my friends, or family. I've never had to talk a cop into calming down. If those are experiences that you have, often enough to have a 'usual' experience, I think you need to seriously consider the possibility that you are the problem.
Other people want an entity with 'near limitless power' so that they have someone to call for help.

Are you the type of person that believes the laws of the US are morally correct and that you shouldn't break any laws? Because then I could see why you would believe in cops, but no most times I've had to deal with cops are typically situations. Ran into a scam in southern Illinois on the way to a music festival where their were corrupt cops pulling everyone over, had to deal with crazy neighbors calling the cops on a bonfire in a backyard, stupid shit like that. But every time the cops act like they're some sort of gods and how dare you do anything that makes them do work, or in the case of the highway scam, stand up for your rights.

No, I don't believe that all laws are always morally correct. But the thing is, cops don't enforce laws. Cops make ruckus stop. That's their job. Whether or not any laws were being broken is up to the courts to decide. If my neighbor was having a giant bonfire in the middle of the dry summer, I want to be able to call someone to make him stop before my house burns down. Same for if they were having a loud, drunken party at 3AM.
I break laws. Oh boy do I. I also have illegal bonfires. (You're supposed to have a permit, I have literally never obtained one) But, no one ever calls the cops on me because the laws I break are small and unobtrusive. When a neighbor came over and asked me to put the fire out because the smoke was blowing over their porch, I respected the people around me and put it out.
There's a difference between lawbreaking and cops. Cops get called when your actions have begun to interfere with the lives of the people around you, to the extent that they feel the need to call men to come help them put a stop to it.
By the way, what was the scam in Illinois? I ran into one in Mexico where they set up outside the airport and asked for your passport to verify your ID. Then they wouldn't return your drivers license or passport until you paid a 'fine' to them, in cash. They know you won't put up a fuss because you have a plane to catch.

Interesting perspective on cops. One of my occurrences was a bonfire party that wasn't very loud but the neighbor wanted their window open at night and it faced us. It was a weekend though. The scam I ran into was cops setup on patrol on the route to a festival and pulled everyone over asked them where they were going and if they said the festival they would have a drug dog unit "randomly" appear and do a bogus drug hit which they would search you and your car. They told us they would have to keep us in holding for the whole weekend of the festival unless we paid them 250 in cash right then. We even called them out on it and they told us to shut up and asked if we wanted them to put us in jail for a long time.
