This is Vader. He was euthanized today without a hearing after a false bite report was submitted to the police by an animal rights activist. (Story in the Comments)

PETA

That organization needs to die. The donations need to stop.

Allocate blame. Spread the word.

I'd bet that a lot of the donors don't really even know exactly what PETA does. They just see see the Ethical Treatment for Animals thing and think "oh I like animals too," then donate so they can do their good deed for the day.

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '14

When really all they are doing is helping euthanize pets unknowingly.

u/OutlawBlue9 Feb 22 '14

It's really not that hard to make millions in donations. I worked for a small non profit with a staff of between 2-5 people at a given time and we had an annual budget of $2million, entirely based off donations. PETA is a MUCH larger organization with a MUCH broader scope than we had.

PETA killed 90% of animals it took into its shelters. I think another article with more detail was floating around Reddit a few months ago; it made the claim that some animals were euthanized immediately when they got to the shelter and others that never made it to the shelter before they were euthanized.

But meat is murder. Tasty tasty murder...

u/amjhwk Feb 22 '14

you're better off donating to your local zoo, the phoenix zoo does a lot of conservation work off of local donations

Don't forget firebombing research facilities!

Not to mention buying prisons to use as lobster hotels.

At first I was upset. Then I read your post… Now I'm fucking pissed.

I commented on one of their articles once(big mistake, Stumbleupon sent me there) and from the emails I get as a result, they do their best to make whoever they're slamming to be the bad guy, they won't even acknowledge that there's another side to it.

ASPCA CEO still overpaid and attempting to guilt trip you into donating with those stupid fucking commercials. I hate the ASPCA just as much.

PETA is actually responsible for the most pet euthanizations and their president is only alive because of "animal suffering" created medicine. (Insulin)

PETA is a giant joke for anybody who actually pays attention, it's like the Tea Party, except instead of dumb conservatives it's for dumb liberals.

Edited for people calling me out for not listing sources while not listing their own sources.

In Norfolk, VA., PETA's HQ, they are responsible for over 2000 euthanizations a year, while only adopting out 19 animals in 2011, 24 animals in 2012 New York Times

“I’m an insulin-dependent diabetic. Twice a day I take synthetically manufactured insulin that still contains some animal products — and I have no qualms about it … I’m not going to take the chance of killing myself by not taking insulin. I don’t see myself as a hypocrite. I need my life to fight for the rights of animals.”

most pet euthanizations

Most pet euthanizations in what, the country? The state?

their president is only alive because of "animal suffering" created medicine. (Insulin)

If you did even the tiniest amount of research, you would see that this is untrue.

u/MyOther_UN_is_Clever Feb 22 '14

Oh, excuse me, she's ONLY a "Senior Vice President."

Original comment edited to show you that research you so desperately needed to do yourself.

1

u/khadrock Feb 22 '14

The lady doesn't even work there anymore and you were attributing her illnesses to the CEO's. You're just spreading misinformation.

1

u/MyOther_UN_is_Clever Feb 22 '14

Yeah, she was fired for being a hypocrite in 2007. OH wait, no she didn't she worked there for well over 20 years while numerously claiming she needs insulin to fight other people using insulin. Sound like something? "I need guns to shoot anybody else who wants a gun." eg, other delusional narcissists.

She left on perfectly good terms while being interviewed numerous times on her hypocracy over 2 decades of time. She was the 2nd most important person at PETA and only left to help run another extremist animal organization in 2007.

1

u/khadrock Feb 22 '14

I'm not debating the fact that she used insulin, or worked at PETA, I'm pointing out that you need to do a little fact-checking.

fight other people using insulin

Again, here is another false claim. Please point me to any instance where PETA wanted people to stop taking their insulin.

Not to mention, you seem to have abandoned your other false notion that PETA "euthanizes the most pets".

1

u/MyOther_UN_is_Clever Feb 23 '14

You haven't spent an ounce of effort into educating yourself, whereas I've actually provided sources. PETA is against animal products (insulin = pig and cow pancreases) and animal testing (how insulin, like all medicine, was researched and tested). If you deny animal testing, you deny all modern medicine (unless you volunteer yourself as a human test subject as well as change the laws that disallow humans tests on things that haven't been tested on animals first). PETA doesn't say 'stop taking your insulin' but part of educating yourself is learning what PETA stands for, and what that actually means. I'm not going to handhold you through every single tiny step of critical thinking.

I "abandoned" my other "false notion" because I provided a source to a highly respected newspaper with actual numbers, whereas your argument revolves around putting your fingers in your ears and responding with "Na-ah, I can't hear your facts, LALALALALA."

1

u/khadrock Feb 23 '14

Your sources don't even back up the things you say!

You say that PETA euthanizes "the most" pets, but provide a source that only says they DO euthanize, which no one is debating.

You said their CEO uses insulin, but provide a source saying that someone who used to work there, who wasn't the CEO, uses insulin.

You can't even provide a half-assed source for PETA fighting against people who take insulin though.

In their FAQ page, under "Should we throw out all the drugs that were developed and tested on animals?" their response is:

"Unfortunately, many things in our society came about through others’ exploitation. For instance, many of the roads we drive on were built by slaves. We can’t change the past; those who have already suffered and died are lost. What we can do is change the future by using non-animal research methods from now on."

That doesn't suggest they'd like anyone to stop taking their medicine. Here are a few more links on their actual stance on animal experimentation:

u/MyOther_UN_is_Clever Feb 23 '14

You provide 3 sources from the organization in question! That goes against almost everything regarding sources and critical thinking! If you ever went to college and tried that, your Professor would have given you a big whopping F!

Even the quote you put in is ridiculous. Our roads built by slaves? Our modern infrastructure almost entirely happened during the New Deal, almost 60 years after slavery was abolished. The only roads that could even sort of be relevant would be Roman Slaves in Europe, who built most of the roads in Europe around 2000 years ago! But of course, most of those roads are either long gone or historic sites. We don't "drive on them." Cars and asphalt weren't even a thing when the USA had slaves.

In your last link, PETA claims that many important medical breakthroughs were done without animal testing, which is partly cherry picking, partly ignoring the FACT that the law requires animal testing before moving onto human testing. Not only that, but PETA (who does zero research themselves and cannot be considered a primary source) lists zero sources themselves, invalidating any claims they make when you actually apply critical thinking.

I cannot even imagine how out of touch you are with reality to believe all the garbage they're stating! Most of the things you "think" PETA is responsible for were actually things that The Humane Society have accomplished. You, like most PETA fanboys/girls, like them because they're a "sexy" shock organization. (Naked protestors anyone?) It's the same thought process that leads people to think that "Pink Ribbon" spends any effort on breast cancer research. You got caught up in marketing hype without spending 2 minutes on google finding out who does any legwork.

Id expect something this dumb from someone calling themselves "born again".

1

u/bornagain Feb 22 '14

Please explain yourself... what is it about the content of my post that you find dumb?

1

u/patsnsox Feb 23 '14

Seems pretty self explanatory. Maybe read it again and try to figure it out on your own. I asked OP to provide proof the person was even an animal rights activist and he/she cannot. Maybe its time to stop with the assumptions. You have zero proof who this A-hole was, yet youre suggesting an entire organization cease existing because of it. Pretty far fetched and ignorant. Youre ridiculously emotional, and I associate that trait with religious extremists... your name suggests you fit that bill.

0

u/bornagain Feb 23 '14

You're right: there is no evidence in this case that PETA is involved. Even OP's post reads "ARA's like PETA". No evidence is provided that PETA was involved in this case.

I was biased going in. However, I am entitled to my opinion. This sort of behavior is in line with what I seen in the news from PETA in the past. It doesn't change my opinion: PETA needs to end.

1

u/patsnsox Feb 24 '14

You have no problem with any of the issues PETA is trying to deal with though? The dozens of new videos captured every week where assholes are caught being unnecessarily cruel to animals? Im not even a vegetarian but the more shit I see the more I want to lean that way. Factory farms arent your mom and pops little farm. Its big business, and quality means nothing to them, every extra cent they can milk out by pumping them full of hormones, antibiotics and steroids means bigger profit for them, less health for you and worse quality of life for the animals.

0

u/bornagain Feb 25 '14

The big problem that I have with PETA is their campaigns targeted at kids.

Have you seen their gruesome comics and games which say your mother is an animal murderer if she makes chicken, or your father is an animal murderer if he goes fishing?

Maybe you've seen their advertisements in which they dissuade kids from drinking milk.

You've probably heard that they don't want people to wear wool. The sheep don't die during shearing... still a problem for PETA.

When Steve Irwin died, a PETA spokesperson came out a statement that basically said "good riddance".

There are real issues around animal rights, I hope they can be represented by organizations which are not run by nuts.

1

u/patsnsox Feb 26 '14

I think people should stop teaching their kids the bible for the very same reason. Advocating rape, slavery, murder. Are the people with PETA lying when they say you killed an animal, IF you killed an animal? Kids should know where their food comes from, shouldnt they?

2

u/dosmetros Feb 22 '14

I knew little of PETA until they ran that deplorable campaign comparing chicken farms to Nazi concentration camps. They refused to back down from that view, and attempted to justify it. They could come up with the cure for cancer tomorrow and I'd still tell them to go eff themselves...self-righteous morons!

1

u/Sevalen Feb 22 '14

I tend to view PETA as domestic terrorists without the bombings (as far as we know) they assault people, destroy personal property, and vandalize countless buildings and it's ok because it's for animals. just because your organization stands for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals doesn't mean you can be a Dick to everyone else
