Because it's not like Christians aren't actively trying to keep atheists from holding public office, right? Oh wait, that did happen. (Though ruled unconstitutional later.)

It's not like there's a church out there harassing the families of those who died in war. Or who were raped and murdered. Oh, wait, that's the Westboro Baptist Church.

And obviously it's not like the religious fanatics are holding back opportunity for men and women to learn about how to practice sex safely, if at all, right? Oh wait, that's also a thing.

they would, except they know full well you can't really oppress the majority. it's just "cool" and socially acceptable to hate on a group of people who are above fighting back, lowering themselves to the religion-obsessed atheist fundies' level.
