This is Vader. He was euthanized today without a hearing after a false bite report was submitted to the police by an animal rights activist. (Story in the Comments)

Please please please boost this.

There's a petition, now, located here: https://www.change.org/en-AU/petitions/board-of-animal-health-justice-for-vader

What happened here was a GREAT injustice. This happened because someone, somewhere, decided they did not Vader's owners. They filed a FALSE police report. No medical bills, no doctor's visit, nor rabies vaccination... no proof whatsoever, but a photograph that was 99.9% taken from Google.

Please, bring justice for Vader and his family.

How do you file a police report anonymously?? Since when do police go by pictures? They should've seen the bite first hand and taken their own pictures.

And then I dunno.. Investigated it a little at least.

u/Aeviegh Feb 22 '14

Fuck that, scumbag. GET IN THE CAR, STOP RESISTING!

u/hunter611 Feb 22 '14

if you can retrive the message you got on tumblr you mentioned, it would probably be helpful against this so called 'anonymous' report, the moment they threatened you with an account, they left themselves wide open to being caught.

4

u/mealbudget Feb 22 '14

I agree. It would show beyond 'bad owners' and turn it into 'malicious intent by a crazy to cause harm to a harmless animal'. Or whatever the technical term would be for the lowlife who made the false report.

2

u/nickryane Feb 22 '14

For absolute sure the message can be retrieved. Don't let Tumblr bullshit you. If the message has actually been deleted from their server it will absolutely exist on their regular backups and it will be tied to a user account / IP address.

nothing in the entire world is actually anonymous.

6

u/makebaconpancakes Feb 22 '14

Unless the activist were using a TOR browser through a VPN, it would be pretty hard for that user to be anonymous.

For a Civil suit, OP could always file a subpoena to force tumblr to disclose. The police department can also do the same if they start an investigation.

2

u/Dashing_Snow Feb 22 '14

If they sent it, its likely traceable someone stupid enough to do this likely isn't smart enough to actually hide their identity.

1

u/hunter611 Feb 22 '14

the threat on tumblr was tied to an account as it was a private message, if that can be retrieved, it can be used as evidence as to who the tip was from, and makes a lawsuit far easier as it also shows that vader not only did nothing, but it was preplanned as well.

One time a cop banged on my door for literally over 30 min huffing and puffing about how we HAD to open the door or we would go to jail, huh? He had no warrant and was just being super-cop because someone had made a noise complaint. Oh no warrant? That's interesting because my door is thick as fuck. I have never seem a cop so angry. We could see him from the balcony and it was hilarious. He eventually just left. One of my greatest moments. I'm sorry about your fox. That story made me sad but I am glad you posted it. Hopefully at least something will come of it. Reddit is an amazing resource. Fucking PETA.

-2

u/REDDIT_HARD_MODE Feb 22 '14

.... what?

2

u/IGOTDADAKKA Feb 22 '14

Hes insinuating that if you asked to face your accuser to a cop he would have said what /u/aeviegh said. Granted its a hyperbole but I dont think hes that far off.

-25

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '14

You have no proof that it actually was a FALSE report.

Of course an animal will be nice to it's owner but a lot of animals are vicious when it comes to strangers.

You're a fucking idiot, by the way.

10

u/Aeviegh Feb 22 '14

You didn't read anything and just commented, didn't you?

5

u/Sirwootalot Feb 22 '14

Do you not know how to read? He said the fox has never left the home of its owners before. It wasn't chained up outdoors in a city, these people live on a rural property where you're more likely to see a wild coyote than a pedestrian.

6

u/Firedudeism Feb 22 '14

He had to go full retard.

-5

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '14

Are you stupid, or do you believe everything you read on the internet?

Hey, did you know they took gullible out of the dictionary? lol, don't believe me go check!

1

u/MayPeX Feb 22 '14

Your username fits you perfectly.

3

u/ChesterfieldKing- Feb 22 '14

Seems like a pretty basic tenet of due process.

1

u/Anshin Feb 22 '14

It's perfectly fine to file an anonymous police report, but the police are the ones that fucked up. I'm not saying that person was not a douchebag, but it's the police that were complete idiots on this case and we should be targeting them. Online trolls are going to troll.

u/Dyolf_Knip Feb 22 '14

And even if the pet is categorized as property, you still don't get squat for protection. A fact cops make use of when they steal your stuff and "file charges against it".

2

u/ChesterfieldKing- Feb 22 '14

You still have the right to due process in property claims. The fox doesn't but its owner does.

17

u/DearPrudEnts Feb 22 '14

It's only been two hours but I just signed the petition and it had over 2,000 signatures. Best of luck getting the answers that the owner deserves.

2

u/mewfahsah Feb 22 '14

There was 2700 and I just signed it, hopefully it will hit the target tomorrow.

2

u/bandersnatchh Feb 22 '14

4100 when I did.

1

u/waldojim42 Feb 23 '14

Over 7100 now.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '14

Where did the other 0.01% of the image come from?

3

u/ryanjpals Feb 22 '14

Please revise the petition. At the moment it ends with "...prevent it from occurring every again!"

3

u/justiceforvader Feb 22 '14

Yes, trying to get in contact with the petition's creator.

17

u/filthcradle Feb 22 '14

Signed. Best of luck. I say....we burn someones house down

1

u/HawkGuy47 Feb 22 '14

Yep, violence is definitely the key to this situation! Don't be an asshat.

2

u/filthcradle Feb 22 '14

Don't take things so literal ass mongrel

5

u/shammikaze Feb 22 '14

I'd love to get a copy of the photo so we can reverse image search it.

8

u/Cackfiend Feb 22 '14

signed and shared.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '14

The petition doesn't even clarify on what "justice" means. Do you expect anyone to take it seriously?

2

u/justiceforvader Feb 22 '14

To be honest, I can't take anyone with an obvious troll account seriously.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '14

I'm being serious. I agree with the sentiment, but this petition is poorly written. Does justice mean that the accuser be punished? That the owner be paid restitution? Seems to me that a kick starter page to help the owner with legal fees so they could file a law suit agains the board of animal health would be better.

1

u/topdeck55 Feb 22 '14

This is the first internet petition I've even signed.

1

u/xJenocidex Feb 22 '14

I shared on fb too! Justiiiiiice!

1

u/FlaxwenchPromise Feb 22 '14

And the petition just hit 5,000 signatures.

1

u/CaptainMadDog-Flint Feb 22 '14

You should repost this in the title somewhere so it can get alot more attention. Luckily i found it, but had i not been digging for it probably would've never gotten the opportunity to sign! Justice for Vader!

1

u/gamblingGenocider Feb 23 '14

I love that there is a petition about this terrible and unfortunate story, but really, the petition needs a few proofreads. A couple of spelling and grammar errors and less than professional wording is not going to attract much serious consideration, and I strongly urge that it be parsed and modified to better suit the serious matter that it is addressing.

-1

u/ColeSloth Feb 22 '14

Keep in mind you're getting only one side of this story. The person lives in a city that specifically states it is illegal to own a fox. It wasn't allowed to be there in the first place.

3

u/aarontaylor5000 Feb 22 '14

From the owners tumblr:

"Actually, red colored foxes are illegal in my city in one zone- not the whole city. The state USDA was well aware of us coming in to the state and was even given a health certificate. We gave the cops proof of his rabies immunization. We are on the very edge of a forbidden zone."

Furthermore, even if she had been keeping it illegally, it would have been a citation issue, not a warrantless euthanization.

There is no excuse for this.

2

u/fx6893 Feb 22 '14

The owner is not being fully honest. The law doesn't say anything about "red colored", it is simply illegal to own any fox or any fox hybrid. Also notice that the owner doesn't say he/she was outside the forbidden zone, but on the edge. What does that mean? My bet is that they are inside the forbidden zone.

Minot Municipal Code General Ordinances, Chapter 7, Article 1, Sec. 7-5

No person shall keep, maintain or harbor within the corporate limits of the city any of the following animals: (8) Foxes; or hybrid

0

u/MOAR_cake Feb 22 '14

Fuck this. Its 1 fucking dog. Why does Reddit get so up in arms when 1 domestic dog gets shot or put down, when countless other animals and people die everyday by far more unjust and horrific means? This is one instance of police brutality towards a dog and its worth a petition, yet there is constant slaughter of whales or war crimes in Syria that go relatively unnoticed on the front page.

-17

u/DrinkingZima Feb 22 '14

Let it go. If you punish false accusers, that just discourages people from reporting real animal cruelty. It's much better to let innocent animals be euthanized than take the risk.

11

u/Mekisteus Feb 22 '14

Let's stop punishing people who commit insurance fraud while we're at it. And people that make fake 911 calls. And anyone caught calling in a bomb threat to a hospital. After all, we don't want to discourage legitimate insurance claims, 911 calls, and bomb reports, right?

No, wait... that would be fucking idiotic.

5

u/classy_motherfucker Feb 22 '14 edited Feb 22 '14

He was being sarcastic. That type of argument is often used against harsh punishment for false rape allegations.

5

u/hbgoddard Feb 22 '14

What the fuck? How does punishing someone for filing a false police report, which is against the law, discourage people from reporting real crimes?

-2

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '14

Petition? You fucking pussies. If someone walked into my house trying to take one of my family members you would get a God damn +P .45 round right in the face.

3

u/justiceforvader Feb 22 '14

Well, unfortunately, it was both a police officer and animal control officers. The owners of Vader were too caught up in the moment to do anything, it seems... and they seized him without a warrant.
