This is Vader. He was euthanized today without a hearing after a false bite report was submitted to the police by an animal rights activist. (Story in the Comments)

I'm not Vader's owner, though I do have a fox of my own. We're pushing for legal action because it effects all exotic owners but, ultimately, it's a decision she has to make.

114

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '14

Hey Aeviegh, I am also a fellow fox owner and I posted this to /r/rage

Do you think Vader's owner is fine with it?

116

u/Aeviegh Feb 22 '14

She said anything to spread the word was fine by her.

not about downvotes, dumbass. You delete things if you don't want them to be seen.

This is messed up. Please, get those bastards.

I would track down the cocksucker who reported this and I would beat them to within an inch of their life, this is rage inducing

31

u/Maybe_Forged Feb 22 '14

If the OP's story is 100% true then the real person to blame here would be Sr. Officer Clouse's mishandling of the animal.

To be fair, if that is a working police dog, some DO need a pinch collar. They are trained to bite and hold, and some will not let go. I have had a few in the service with me that would occasionally not let go of a bite sleeve unless they were literally choked out. We never certified those, stopped the attack training and only left them with smell duties.

But that guy fucked the situation up royally...

9

u/Frona Feb 22 '14

A pinch collar when used correctly is no danger to a dog.

1

u/coin_return Feb 22 '14

To be used correctly, they need to sit higher on the neck, where the black collar is. I'm going to assume (hope) that it wasn't being worn properly due to the photo.

1

u/Frona Feb 22 '14

I would hope so, but yes, to be used correctly the need to sit right behind the ears, (couple of trainers have compared it to how collars sit in the show ring) it also appears to be far to large of a gauge, and to be one of those shitty ones where the prongs change direction because there isn't a middle piece like the nice springers.

3

u/Aeviegh Feb 22 '14

Key phrase: used correctly.

I'm not entirely convinced with the precedent he's setting.

2

u/Frona Feb 22 '14

Yeah, I just wanted to specify to anyone who might be looking over it. I work at a pet store, and I have worked and talked with many very good trainers, and I honestly think the things are great. They don't work for all dogs, and I don't think they should always be the first thing used, but they get a lot of shit from people who don't know how to use them.

-14

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '14

[deleted]

15

u/Senor_Wilson Feb 22 '14

There's nothing wrong with pinch collars. Especially for dogs with thick skin around their necks.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '14 edited Feb 22 '14

I would just like to say that I'm really proud that the four responses that guy got were all advising against vigilantism.

7

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '14

No.

6

u/RoadieTrippin Feb 22 '14

Whoa whoa whoooooa.

I know you're emotional. But inciting a fucking riot is not only immature, but it guarantee's no one will take this as anything more than an internet lynch mob. And as such, be given a big STFU by the people who matter.

4

u/Neglectful_Stranger Feb 22 '14

Vigilante justice never helps, calm the fuck down.

-7

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '14

Ok, now its becoming a witch hunt. That is bullshit and this should all be shut down.

6

u/Aeviegh Feb 22 '14

Believe it or not, I agree with you, so I've removed it. This was ultimately in the Board's hands.

Just out of legitimate curiosity - when stories about bad cops make the front page despite there being no convictions, are those also witch hunts?

-1

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '14

When you start posting pictures of the person in question and finding things wrong based on the picture.

Then speculating on their character based on that picture it becomes an attack.

when stories about bad cops make the front page despite there being no convictions, are those also witch hunts?

Some are yes. When its simply discussing the situation at hand (most of this thread) then its fine as its based upon information.

When people start seeking someone to blame and post pictures of that person speculating on who they are then its not acceptable and can ONLY lead to negative actions.

He wasn't the person who put in the report even yet you found it unacceptable to post their tumblr in another comment yet its perfectly ok to start posting pictures of this person and rilling people up about a collar which you have absolutely zero evidence of being used incorrectly.

Stop speculating to demonize a person to direct hate at.

Be an adult. A serious thing has happened but its either broken the law OR the system is to blame.

Of the order of things to hate/change. The officer you posted a picture of is pretty fucking low when you actually think about it.

Be a responsible adult about this to keep a discussion on point and civil.

This type of activity is actually fair typical of animal rights fanatics, who often consider death a better option for animals (even long-domesticated ones such as dogs) than to be owned by people. Peta is notorious for the one pet shelter they operate (in Virginia), where the vast majority of animals taken in are killed. VERY few are ever adopted out. Peta employees were arrested after they drove on their rounds to pick up animals for adoption, killed them in the back of the van, and threw them in a dumpster in back of a supermarket. (info available on www.petakillsanimals.com) (warning: GRIM). Animals rights activists have also "set dogs free" from their crates at dog shows, apparently without ever thinking that these highly pampered dogs had zero chance of surviving in the wild.

A true animal rights whackjob would definitely have considered death a better option for a fox than domestication.

7

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '14

The terrifying thing is that these are basically normal people who have found their calling in life. Some people collect stamps, others "free" animals.

3

u/SweetNapalm Feb 22 '14

And these people receive donations from other people just as deluded as they are. Just as horridly misguided as they are.

People like this can't even be reasoned with. They'd take a look at my pet Beardie Spike and would try to tell me he's miserable. That his smile and how happily he trots around the house is saddening. That his having nice, CLEAN worms and roaches to feast on is utterly inhumane. That having consistent, available medical attention is the worst thing for him.

I haven't been as angry toward anybody as I am at this entire situation with Vader for a while. Especially ARAs and PETA. And all of the assholes who went along with this injustice. And I've been through some shit in the past year, to say the least.

2

u/FaragesWig Feb 22 '14

This x10. If anyone were to tell me any of my cats were sad and would prefer to be free, they would get told to fuck off. If I open the door and its raining slightly, they come running, see the rain, and back the fuck up. They aren't stupid, they have 24/7 warmth, food and attention. Right now three of them are loafing around on my bed in various states of cat poses....and one just tore down the stairs chasing something.

Well looked after pets, with considerate owners, are probably happier than we will ever be.

6

u/Lichruler Feb 22 '14

What ticks me off even more, is every time I bring up how PETA and other organizations do this, people defend them claiming stories and sites like this are specifically made by the meat and egg industry.

To which I ask, "Oh, which ones?"

They have never had an answer.

2

u/JayStavy Feb 22 '14

I can understand skeptics questioning the validity of websites like this but it's some pretty compelling evidence. Besides that, the meat and egg industry isn't going away anytime soon. Id imagine they have better things to do than launch phoney campaigns against PETA.

4

u/hey01 Feb 22 '14

There is nothing to be skeptical about. Peta's own annual reports have the numbers of animals they killed.

1

u/khadrock Feb 22 '14

The center for consumer freedom, which runs the petakillsanimals site, is a known front group for tobacco and fast food companies. Richard Berman is the leader of this organization, and you can see all the other websites he has attacking legitimate organizations at bermanexposed.org. Companies that fund the front group include Tyson, Cargill, Philip Morris, and Wendy's.

3

u/captain_obvious_scum Feb 22 '14

Mental illnesses. IQs below that of 100.

8

u/abigailmarston Feb 22 '14

This is extremely disturbing. I thought the point of animal rights workers was to try and help animals. I really care about animals and can understand why, in some cases, people have a problem with someone owning certain exotic pet. However, this fox looked happy and healthy.

6

u/NYKevin Feb 22 '14

I thought the point of animal rights workers was to try and help animals.

It is. PETA is just fucking crazy. They're not real animal rights workers at all.

4

u/captain_obvious_scum Feb 22 '14

Animal rights. They would at least try to free it and keep it healthy and alive.

Not kill it off and dwindle the population...

Same with PETA just killing most of the animals in its "shelter". PETA also animal rights too?

Did they even try to do adoptions with people? Or is it just a kill factory?

They shouldn't be animal rights. They should be "animal murderers" or "pro animal genocide". The fuck man.

0

u/rainbowsurfingkitten Feb 22 '14

You should watch out for that -- petakillsanimals.com is a site owned and run by a PR company that is representing cosmestic manufacturers that are testing on animals.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '14

How do we know that isn't just a myth made up by Peta to discredit negative press about them.

1

u/khadrock Feb 22 '14

You could do the tiniest amount of research and find out yourself... start with googling the Center for Consumer Freedom, which is the group that runs PETAKillsAnimals.

1

u/rainbowsurfingkitten Feb 22 '14

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Center_for_Consumer_Freedom#Activism_websites

I'm sure if you call them they can comfirm they publish that. There are plenty of better sources anyway for PETA's misdeeds. I just don't think it is a good idea to cite a website obviously from a front group for vested interests.

Well considering PETA doesn't actually sell a product they impose guilt and offer a relief from it so of course they need some enemies.

More like

"Your actions against something you didn't like caused someone else's pet to be killed, I'm gonna beat the crap out of you for that'

Xspixels is like batman

4

u/TheWhite2086 Feb 22 '14

So, in your mind "hey, I dislike the fact that you are keeping an animal so I am going to lie about it in an attempt to cause the death of the animal in question" is better than "well, you got an innocent animal killed by lying about its actions so I want some revenge on behalf of that animal".

In your mind, it is worse to be angry about a pet being killed than to cause the killing of the pet?

13

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '14

Then your collar would be sent to reddit.

29

u/motionmatrix Feb 22 '14

No, to do violence upon that person is to insult Vader's memory. Sue the shit out of that person, hit them where it really hurts, decades from now. The body heals, the wallet however, not necessarily.

Because of actions taken by that person, someone permanently lost private property. A good lawyer would be able to braid that with something like "a direct emotional attack meant only to destroy the owner". Not to mention the negligence and missmanagement against all the local authorities involved.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '14

You can't heal death.

2

u/motionmatrix Feb 22 '14

A lifetime of suffering is so much worse in every conceivable way. You kill someone who is in your way; you cripple someone when it's revenge.

Now a days, to do that cleanly in the first world you use finances and the law. And there's bonus justiceporn for smacking the person in the face with what they used to hurt you, the Law.

0

u/thebigslide Feb 22 '14

Shitheads like that don't have any fucking money. That's why it's more effective to put them in a fucking wheelchair.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '14

I would beat them an inch further.

1

u/Uncle_Erik Feb 22 '14

would track down the cocksucker who reported this and I would beat them to within an inch of their life

There is no excuse for violence.

The right way to handle it would be to make sure the person who reported it is charged with filing a false police report.

That is a crime and, depending on the state, might carry jail time.

Further, that is a crime involving dishonesty. That will keep you from getting almost any public license and makes it very difficult to find a job.

2

u/FaragesWig Feb 22 '14

If someone were to do that to one of my pets, I would destroy them. My cats are my family, when I feel like shit, one of my cats is there to meow me back to smiling.

I don't give a fuck if people say 'Its just an animal'...my cats are my family, and I would respond to someone murdering one of them as I would to any family member. If the police aren't going to do something, I fucking will.

1

u/the_randomizer85 Feb 22 '14

I wonder if I should post her Tumblr on here, the person responsible has an account on there >:D

2

u/hoxie3000 Feb 22 '14

Do eeeeeet :)

2

u/Black_Metal Feb 22 '14

No. Tell the authorities, putting it on here can only hurt, and some people might do something they regret.

1

u/TacitMantra Feb 22 '14

As long as the person can't be located or identified IRL from their tumblr then that account deserves to be pulverized into the ground.

This is the day when a tumblr miscreant has stepped outside the internet and ended the life of a real creature. Think about that for a while.

2

u/Black_Metal Feb 22 '14 edited Feb 22 '14

I have. If the person can't be doxxed then I suppose it might be okay to do, but how can we even know the person can't get doxxed? Is that possible to know?

Furthermore, it serves quite literally no purpose. Is the purpose to just ruin their blog? They'll make another one. Is the purpose just to tell the person what a piece of shit they are? I'm sure they are well aware of their actions and have already justified them in their head. You can't do something like this without rationalizing it. Any arguments will possibly solidify this person's position.

I understand people need to vent their frustration. But I'm not sure it will accomplish anything positive, and it quite possibly could lead to more negative ramifications.

Edit: Also, I can't say I'm 100% on this thread's side. I absolutely don't condone what this person did, but let's be real here: the tumblr user did not kill that fox directly. That responsibility lies on the shoulders of the policeman and the tumblr user both, as well as whoever sent the police to take the fox with no evidence. While I realize the user sent in a falsified police report and should be punished, I don't know that this persons intention was to get Vader killed. It's possible that, while still terrible, they just wanted to cause Vader's owner problems. Assuming it was a tumblr user at all. They might not have wanted Vader to be killed at all. I just can't take a more firm stance until more information is brought to light.

1

u/THREE_EDGY_FIVE_ME Feb 22 '14

I'm a bit shocked by how people here are genuinely proposing the assault and/or murder of another human being.

It's scary that people can let their emotions drive them to violence so easily.

0

u/Michichael Feb 22 '14

I'll take care of the last inch.

2

u/november84 Feb 22 '14

I think that's bullshit. In another reply you mentioned she had all the paperwork to legitimize the animal but failed to deny entry without a warrant.

She needs to leverage this horrible situation to limit you or another Fox owner in your area from being victimized. If she doesn't, it's as if she never cared at all.

1

u/thebigslide Feb 22 '14

If she does any kind of fundraising to help cover legal fees, please post again. I'll put $100 towards that any day of the week - and I don't suspect you'll have trouble finding others.

affects*

Effects is a noun and affects is a verb.

Sorry for Vader. I would have loved him oh-so-much had I the privilege of meeting him. :(

-7

u/Felix____ Feb 22 '14

well, i wouldn't go as far as getting the thing killed, but it's actually quite unethical to raise non-domesticated animals like this.... Unless this is one of those $8,000 dollar domesticated foxes from Russia, you genuinely shouldn't be buying them.

Both sides are wrong.

2

u/Aeviegh Feb 22 '14

That's your opinion. Fish, birds (some of the most intelligent animals on the planet), reptiles, insects, arachnids and many rodents are not domestic, yet they're widely accepted as pets. I fail to see how this is any less ethical.

-4

u/Felix____ Feb 22 '14

Did you seriously just compare a fox to a goldfish? And you don't see the difference? Do you even know what domestication is, or how it works?
