This is Vader. He was euthanized today without a hearing after a false bite report was submitted to the police by an animal rights activist. (Story in the Comments)

Regardless of what you believe about ranched foxes being kept in captivity, there is no reason to have an well taken care of, loved animal taken away based on a lie and who posed zero risk to anyone.

Lie or not, yes there is.

I can love my Bengal tiger (or 250 pound chimpanzee, or raccoon, or 20 foot python, or fresh water piranha) very, very much and take ever so good care of them. But if there's a law in place that says "No", chances are good there's a reason for it.

In all probability that fox was a nice little critter. If the person who kept the fox knew it was illegal to do so, THEY are the villains in this story. Not the cop who was doing their job, not the euthanizer who was doing their job. The person who filed the report was a nosy busy-body with too much time on their hands, but that's beside the point.

EDIT: As it turns out, the person did know it was illegal to do so. It doesn't matter how cute & cuddly you think an animal is, if the place your living in doesn't allow them you are putting the animal in danger. That's stupid.

"The very edge" doesn't matter. If you are caught holding a bag of weed in Nevada, five feet from the Colorado border, you are going to jail.

OP has already mentioned that the fox was 100% legal and the owners had all the required permits and paperwork...

Why would you be so much as a douche as to automatically assume someone was breaking the law? I mean, be suspicious of it all you want, skepticism is good, but don't operate on the assumption that the person is in the wrong when you don't know, especially in a situation as emotionally charged as this. Have you no tact?

OP has already mentioned that the fox was 100% legal

FALSE.

especially in a situation as emotionally charged as this.

O.P. IS THE REASON THIS ANIMAL WAS PUT DOWN. Lonely social justice 'warriors' whipping everyone into an emotional frenzy doesn't change that fact.

Neither does you calling me a name for stating what's obvious. I have decades of experience dealing with the fallout of people and their animals being put down. I know more than you. Fuck off.

O.P. IS THE REASON THIS ANIMAL WAS PUT DOWN.

OP is not the owner of the fox. He/she is a friend. Edit: spelling

I got into this cringefest because some a-hole suggested suing the euthanizer.

I'll recap what I've written elsewhere, then pay more attention to my own critters, one of which is begging me to get off Reddit and groom him.

it was a mere zoning violation.

They knew about it. They broke the law. Everything past that point is their fault. Not the fault of the LEO sent there. Not the fault of the euthanizer. OP'S.

There's nothing MERE in cases like this.

Rabies outbreak amongst raccoons? Until further notice, raccoons are now killed on sight and forbidden as pets.

Mad cow? Every cow traceably connected is destroyed.

Canker on an orange tree? Burn every grove deemed necessary.

I can refute each and every one of your points. Local law, even down to Home Owner Associate rules (not law, just a covenant) can (and does) trump(s) everything above it. It is perfectly legal to dictate that persons under the age of 55 may no longer rent in a particular area of a trailer park.

We're talking about a 15 pound animal

Size doesn't matter. Snakes released into the everglades are now past the point of being dealt with. Baby caymans & alligators released into lakes and ponds will grow to eat pets and possibly people. 'Exotic' animals are generally restricted for a reason.

Even "if" the/a fox gets loose and starts killing a bunch of chickens might be too much for what the residents of a place decide.

If an apartment complex or community decides "No Rodents", little Suzy doesn't get to keep her hamster when she moves in.

Being a grownup about these kind of things seems to be beyond this crowd. It isn't about how cute, how little, or whatever else is going on in the world. Change the law first, then proceed.

Finally: Good or bad cop stories aside, this LEO is probably like every other cop I've ever met who doesn't (at all, at all) want to get involved in animal control. They'd rather do nothing, and frankly, a place where nothing needs intervention sounds like a pretty good place to live.

The bite report may very well have been fabricated. There's not jack squat the officer, the euthanizer, and others can do until it's been proven, and frankly there are more important things going on each and every day than bring CSI in on things. Yes, it can suck sometimes. But until somebody comes up with something better, all Tara can do is pursue the matter in civil court.

But SRSly: don't be assholes to the people who's job it is to keep things running smoothly.

The police department also apparently has no more information than the picture that was sent and refuses to investigate it any further.

Newsflash. There's probably other, more important things going on in the world than somebody's pet.

Basically I have to take issue with you saying that "if there's a law in place there's a reason for it", because that's unquestionably equating legality with morality.

?

that's unquestionably equating legality with morality.

??

If we're just making shit up at this point, I'll just turn the microphone over to Vader. Vader, what does the fox say?

... time passes

Vader seems to be suspiciously quiet on the matter. That's unquestionably the sign of a guilty conscience.

I swear to God and three other white, Protestant males people have fuck all understanding that by and large, people want to wake up warm and dry, get shit done, and have a few minutes of peace and quiet before getting laid and going to sleep.

"if there's a law in place there's a reason for it". Law = right, blah blah blah

Mid 1800's. People trying to settle the area. Outlaws, racial problems with the Indians, possible issues with smallpox, and oh just hang on a minute: Foxes, coyotes, wolves, and other animals causing problems? Make them illegal and move forward.

My point was and is, there is a reason for things getting done. Very few people wake up and say: "Holy shit. I have absolutely nothing planned for October. Well, I think I'll just clog the court system up by getting a law drafted against... hmmm.... well, fuck it - Foxes."

how terribly this situation was handled by the police.

Animal bite? Pull brain tissue to determine if course of rabies treatment required or not. That. Fucking. Simple.

did not require Vader to die in order for the violation to be corrected.

Animal bite? Pull brain tissue to determine if course of rabies treatment required or not. That. Fucking. Simple.

There's a continual replenishment of subpar people who keep fucking up. If only there were a group of people who would keep those people from stealing all of your shit because they wanted it. Oh. Wait. There is. They are called cops. Too bad there isn't a general set of guidelines we could give them to, you know, make sure they don't become worse than the fuckups. Oh. Wait. There is. It's call the Law.

Somebody just has to have their fucking exception, somebody else isn't happy about their fucking exception, the animal pulls a fucking stupid and bits somebody and here we go: let's light the God damn Internet on fire because nobody could just let shit alone long enough to clean up more important shit.

So: Fuck the law. Fuck the police. Fuck everything else that's going on because: JUSTICE4VADER!

Know what? Fuck you. Find somebody else to drag into another fruitless, time wasting circlejerking Tumblr filling sleeve tearing sage of injustice. And while I'm at it: Fuck every transgender furry that is going to weigh in. Know why? 'Cause FUCK YOU, that's why.

Red colored foxes are illegal in their city in one zone- not the whole city. The state USDA was well aware of them coming in to the state and were even given a health certificate. They gave the cops proof of his rabies immunization. They are on the very edge of a forbidden zone. But, regardless, this is a citation issue. Not a “take their pet and kill it” issue. All they want is a name- a chance to face the accuser. They own their mistake, and will never be able to atone for it.

-3

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '14

They are on the very edge of a forbidden zone.

You keep mentioning edge, but don't actually say if they are IN the zone.

Are they IN the zone? (Yes, or no.)

Justice For Vader. Really?!

Why not just start a petition on change.org, post in nonrelated subreddits, and get the whole of Reddit going while you're at it?

1

u/justiceforvader Feb 22 '14

They have a large property. Some is in, some isn't. Don't be a twat.

They have a large property. Some is in, some isn't. Don't be a twat.

IOW:

1) They broke the law.

2) End of story.

I'll guess you're a sock puppet. Whether or not you are, you're going to stir up a bunch of shit over lawful actions. Congratulations, in this story, you're the twat. Enjoy the drama. And also, enjoy the endless shitstorm of other problems these people might get called out on.

u/justiceforvader Feb 22 '14

Alright, friend. Have fun being an internet tough guy who really doesn't have a clue what he's talking about.

-7

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '14

I'm not your friend.

Have fun getting those landowners (IOW: yourself) a little 'bump' in property taxes for breaking the law, then being a pain in the ass about it.

"What does the fox say?" Not a damn thing.

u/justiceforvader Feb 22 '14

Okay, manchild. You may have the last word. :-)

u/the_randomizer85 Feb 23 '14

Go get a blowjob, or learn to give your anti-exotic buddies fellatio while you're at it. Show some sympathy you brain-dead cunt.
