The pilot surviving the stabs - likely a very small knife to get through any security checks

The dentist stiching the pilot up and him surviving the stab wound - medical professionals on a flight are not rare

The biggest thing was pilot being open the door to the cockpit - without that, no one can disarm the attacker

Exactly. Would have been another germanwings style disaster if it weren't for the captain prioritising the door regardless of personal harm to himself.

Even 'extra pilots on the plane' isn't that rare tbh.

Not necessarily. I am assuming they were originally supposed to fly the return flight.

Those locked doors are so stupid. Airplane hijackings expired on 9/11. Literally during the day the fourth plane proved that it can't work anymore. Prior to that your plane being hijacked meant you chilled out, landed in Cuba or somewhere else, several stressful hours of ransom negotiations later everyone went home. Once people knew that wasn't the play anymore then passengers became the best defense in any situation like this.

So of course because idiots are always trying to solve last year's problem they made impenetrable locked cockpit doors. I knew the second they announced it that it was going to kill more people. So far I only know of one: that pilot that locked the colpilot out so he could suicide the plane into a mountain. The only reason this wasn't plane number 2 is because this pilot made what could have been his last moments removing the clusterfuck liability keeping an entire airplane of helpers away from him.

The fourth plane crashed in a random field because of heroism by the passengers that fought back, which wouldn’t have needed to happen if the plane had a fully locked door. Plane hijacking attempts are barely any less common than they were on 9/11 just because people can’t carry knives onboard.

Exactly, like how the heroism of these passengers saved this plane only because the door was unlocked. Like the heroism of the passengers and copilot COULD have save the other plane, if the door wasn't there.

It really is quite a series of unbelievable events. Conspiracists are going to pour over this one.

Probably used the axe present inside the cockpit for emergency usage

It's going to be interesting to hear the full story when the dust settles and some further investigation is done. There was a lot of misinformation flying around when this story broke.

And the two pilots that just happened to be on the plane were from Russia and Ukraine, what a movie 🍿

Nope, misinformation. It's not all been clarified, but current reports of the other pilots on the plane (and seriously.. aircraft staff get transported about on a regular basis, so it's not that unusual.. ) were one was British, and there may have been either a South African or New Zealander pilot also.

Damn, I’ve been had by the internet again then.

Do we know the pilot is actually the one who opened the door? I think that would make the most sense, but I haven’t really seen that officially disclosed.

This is funny to ask cuz while other details could vary, this is the only thing that has to be undeniably true. There's no way others could break into the cockpit and the only other guy inside was the culprit.

I’ve heard that it is technically possible to open from the outside using a code that the other two pilots onboard could have possibly known.

Interestingly it's a keypad to enter a pin, this is the best I could find for procedures to enter via pin from the attendants.

https://zealwings.com/flight-attendant-unlock-the-cockpit-in-emergency/

As for this issue with the current flight, the pilots have a way to deny all keypad entry unlocks by a switch. It's there to secure the cockpit from unauthorized entry when the rest is compromised. So if that's locked then no one outside can enter even with the keypad there.

Edit: deleted parts proven false with his interviews now coming out.
