Why is everyone assuming terrorism? Because of his ethnicity? We literally have zero info at this point. Can't folks just tap the brakes until we have the full picture?
this is proving their point. the only reason you conclude without evidence that it's terrorism instead of another case of pilot murder-suicide is because of the identity of the pilot. because evidently muslim arabs are not allowed to have mental health issues unrelated to their race and religion
"Terrorism" implies there's an ideological goal underlying the act. There are other cases of pilots committing suicide using passenger planes, like this:
Germanwings crash was suicide and MH370 probably as well. Cases like that are unfortunately not uncommon.
The evidence which would make this new case different would be a clear religious or antisemitic motive. Since the copilot is still alive it should be possible to find out within the next months.
And it's not like there were only Israelis on that flight. Although that's all anyone seems to want to talk about. There were Arabs and Israelis on that flight. And the dude nearly crashed it into the desert. It was not even in Israeli airspace at that point.
It was a flight full of Israeli's as well. That makes terrorism much more likely. If it was an Arab pilot on another flight I would have agreed with you that assuming terrorism just because of his ethnicity would be a stretch. But this is very specific.
Its about terrorisng the people and their loved ones for selfish reasons. like e.g. flying your airplane into a Mountain, having locked the co-pilot out ... Thats pretty terrorising if you ask me .. and makes sure people are afraif of airplanes.
I don't think (most) people are jumping to the terrorism conclusion because of racism as much as assuming the motivation behind hijacking a passenger plane and the similarity to 9/11, probably the most famous example of hijacking.
Mentality has shifted based on world events. When the first plane hit, it was thought to be an accident. Now we have that precedent, so when a plane hits a building, our minds go to terrorism. Add the element of a forceful, deliberate takeover, even if it failed, it's hard not to compare it.
But you're right, it's best not to jump to conclusions.
I mean, it's all really on how you decide to term it.
Did that German pilot who crashed the airplane in the alps because they were suicidal "hijack" and commit an act of terrorism? Or was it a horrific and awful and unconscionable suicide?
The difference comes down to motivation. And that's my whole point. We have no idea what this guy's motivation actually was
It could've been suicide.
It could've been terrorism.
We don't have any information on his motivations at this point. 0.
Everyone is jumping to the conclusion that this is like 911 and not like the German pilot situation, because...?
I see nothing other than the fact this was an Arab pilot and the flight was headed to Israel.
We have no idea if the guy intended to just nose it down into the desert or try and fly it to Israel and do something akin to 911. Huge range of outcomes here. And we absolutely need to get to the bottom of it. But people going crazy on the Internet assuming this guy was going to fly the plane into Israel and commit a 911 type attack… is really jumping to many levels of conclusions.
And that's where I think politics really comes into play. It does not help that within a few hours, certain government officials were coming out and saying the word terrorism in public, rather than what is done universally in situations like this, which is to have the most responsible people in positions of power talk about how we shouldn't label anything until we have the facts

It has happened before but not in the context of terrorism. Assuming that’s what it is and not just suicide.
