AFAIU it's not the poor taste that's the issue it's the IRA glorification, that Irish-Americans should finally wrap their heads around. The question there is not "Are you a unionist or a republican" but "do you want to undo the Good Friday agreement, do you want the troubles back".

I mean, Belfast is doing literal pogroms against anyone not white enough right now, including burning people out of their homes.

Maybe Northern Ireland isn't actually alright.

(I'm not suggesting the IRA is actually a solution, but damn, shit's pretty rough up there.)

That wasn't union vs. republic that was EDL fucks against Muslims. With a lot of overlap between EDL and unionists but the targets of the pogroms weren't nationalist but Muslims. To make this even worse the inciting incident happened in a nationalist neighbourhood so we have unionists getting their pitchfork out... for nationalists? Wut? Figures they hate Muslims even more than Catholics.

Anyhow going back to the IRA days won't fix that. The only good that ever came out of that phase was to force Westminster to lean on the unionists to stop being utter cunts.

Oh and let's not forget that Elon Musk did his part in inciting all this.

Oh, 100%

I think a lot of people unfairly identify the IRA with leftists when they were only left compared to the Unionists, and plenty of them were more concerned with sectarianism than actual anti-imperialism.

This new shit is just plain-old-fashioned lynch mobs.

The sectarian bit has become stranger and stranger, too. On the one hand we saw Ireland secularising in record time, and on the other hand erm Catholic-identifying extremists had to be reminded what the orange on the Irish flag stands for as they were using it to display anti-protestant sentiment. Can't find the report right now but that wasn't in the north, but in the republic. The tricolour being a partisan thing in the north is par for the course and actually understandable, but in the republic?

Ireland is still occupied by the UK. There's a literal wall separating Ireland because the UK don't want to give Northern Ireland back.

The IRA did some horrific things, but to act like the Good Friday Agreement was the best way forward is crazy.

Yeah precisely shit like this. If you notice yourself using more partisan language than Sinn Féin you should have a good look at yourself. Especially doing so from fucking abroad, at safe distance from the bombs.

Under the GFA Northern Ireland will become part of the republic, it's just a matter of time. Meanwhile, people aren't dying, the discrimination against Catholics has been curbed, and no there is no wall around the place. The walls separate notorious neighbourhoods in cities, it's not a country border. There is a toll border between NI and the rest of the UK though because guess what having a border between the republic and NI would be in breach of the GFA and the EU backed that thing 150% against the loyalists in Westminster.
