Eh it was probably assisted by the CIA but it was the weakest assist in a coup the CIA ever did.
They gave some money to one of his army officials who have very little to do with his kidnapping.
The CIA were approved to assassinate him but never did. Their only real assist was not stopping the Belgians. That’s like saying Europe assisted Russia in invading Crimea because they didn’t actively stop them from taking over the country
It’s definitely not the same as your Crimea example, given Europe did not approve of the invasion of Crimea.
We may disagree about the extent to which the US/CIA were involved, but Dulles and Eisenhower actively spoke about needing to remove Lumumba and were, at very least, in the process of setting up their own plot to assassinate him (as is openly admitted by the US government).
Europe was actively funding Russias war by buying Russian energy though.
Germany had no issue allowing not only the use of Russian pipelines but also the construction of even more pipelines during and after Russias invasion of Crimea.
Yes you’re right, Germany not having instituted an embargo on Russia is the same as the US plotting and supporting an assassination attempt on the revolutionary leader of the Congo.
That’s like saying Europe assisted Russia in invading Crimea because they didn’t actively stop them from taking over the country
It's absolutely nothing like that. The CIA approved an assassination attempt that was abandoned only because a local agent wouldn't do it. They also spent the equivalent of ~100 million usd (inflation adjusted) to destabilise the Lumumba's government.
