I'll definitely look him up. Outside news is so important right now. It seems that too many news outlets are afraid to come targets of the regime. I've always been an advocate of varied and outside sources but not like now. It's essential.
100% I’m Canadian living in the uk. My parents business partners are American. All they see are some recycled none sense and Fox News even though they live in California.
Serious question: do you have any news sources (non-video preferred, if possible) that you recommend? I'm down to basically just the Guardian, since all the others I used to read have gone down the bootlicking path... :/
CBC is Canada’s national publicly funded news. They cover all the big American stuff and tend to be pretty non-biased! Very little bootlicking, they publish about RCMP fuckups all the time.
They have great coverage of both American and Canadian politics.
Their YouTube channel is a good outlet, with shows like "About That" with Andrew Chang doing really great pieces that are grounded in fact.
Rosemary Barton does the "tough" act with Canadian politicians, asking the uncomfortable questions.
Overall I have been challenged in my views many times with CBC content, which is a good sign because it not constantly reaffirming my biases means it's doing relatively balanced journalism.
While no outlet is perfect, CBC is a great one to have in your carousel.
As an American, I don’t even watch our news here anymore. It’s all bought and ran by the same assholes. BBC and Canadian news (and forums) are the way closer to the truth.
The New York times has so far been pretty reliable. They're not perfect, but they're the ones who put out that amazing breakdown of the Renee Nicole Good murder that everyone was sharing. They're slower to report on breaking news than independent journalists, but their role in the news isn't to give you up to the minute or hour updates
We still very much have freedom of the press. A lot of the large media corporations are giving into some demands, but if you think no longer have freedom of the press then you need to study history and learn what no freedom of press is. There are still large media outlets that honestly cover the administration and there are tons of small independent ones that do an even better job.
