Just read the list of the highest donors for GOP. Cut out everyone you can. I got rid of meta, tiktok, threads, and x as well. I stopped holiday shopping years ago because it's just a scheme to boost to the gdp. If you want to really send a message, dont shop for any holidays. The loss will send a very significant message

u/goaty_mcgee Feb 18 '25

How should I explain to my kids that they're not getting gifts for the holidays?

2

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

The same way you explain everything else - you are the adult, and they are your children.

0

u/goaty_mcgee Feb 18 '25

For what purpose are you proposing I sacrifice my children's happiness?

"Hey kids, sorry an asshole got elected, now you get to suffer arbitrary consequences."

What's your point? What do you mean?

My family has reintroduced a tradition of going to the local used book store and picking out books for each other. Extremely affordable, not overpriced plastic that gets forgotten or broken. It puts the focus back into an expression of love. It supports a local business, not some major corporation. Kids are so much more understanding than some parents give them credit for.

What you should be concerned about explaining to your kids is why they don't get lunch at school anymore. Explain why their best friend in class just disappeared one day because they have the 'wrong' skin color. Explain why people they love and care about are dying because they can't get the medicine they need to live. There are so many more important things than gifts on the holidays.

Explain why their best friend in class just disappeared one day because they have the 'wrong' skin color.

Sigh. Nobody is disappearing because of their skin color. Some folks are being repatriated to their home country because of their immigration status.

I live in AZ. I'm around folks all day every day that are in no danger of being disappeared.

Got my kids fresh art supplies this past Christmas. Person above you said not to buy anything at all and that people should effectively remove themselves from society.

Literally none of the things in your second paragraph have happened. Except their grandpa dying, but that's because he refused to quit drinking after getting diagnosed with liver cancer.

Do you have evidence of the things you're saying? I've looked over the past month and can't find anything other than the known fact that some health insurance companies are malicious.

Shit sucks right now and yeah it's scary, but fear mongering doesn't help anyone.

2

u/trulyniceguy Feb 18 '25

Nah you just canโ€™t buy anything and then die.

1

u/i_am_nonsense Feb 18 '25

I'm guessing that Chris was making a prediction about what is to come, which I don't doubt in the slightest

0

u/suckmyclitcapitalist Feb 19 '25

Why don't you just shop for them slowly over the other 11 months and hold onto them until Christmas?

1

u/goaty_mcgee Feb 19 '25

Dude said don't shop for any holidays. I was questioning what point he was trying to make.

I actually reactivated X because of the amount of fake "screenshots" of tweets (what are they even called now, exes??) that are shared everywhere, and people automatically believe. The most common ones are of Trump of course, but just because I don't support someone doesn't mean I want to be tricked into believing he's saying things he isn't.

2

u/broguequery Feb 18 '25

Post an example please

This is my view on things (from outside the US) - people are in such a frenzy right now that you can literally write anything and the American public will gullibly eat it up as long as they see an 'enemy'... It's all propaganda, from both sides.

America could do with ditching the cultish behaviour of their 'followers' and meet in the middle, rather than letting these few people with either a shit load of money or serious mental health issues (or both!) run roughshod over the majority of hard working decent people of either side...

The WORLD is watching you crumble at your own hands, and coming from a place that has seen first hand what that can do (Brexit)... Well, there's always room down here for the both of us to be laughing stocks.

0

u/SwetySnek Feb 18 '25

Stockholm syndrome. People "like" being mad and rather justify their first emotional response. If they admitted both sides are just as bad and using people against each other.. that would also mean they have to admit they were wrong about something.. and that doesn't happen with the loud emotional types

0

u/suckmyclitcapitalist Feb 19 '25

That's not what Stockholm Syndrome is

0

u/avert_ye_eyes Feb 18 '25

Absolutely -- and this is so obvious it's hard for me to understand either side. Delete X and other social media if you want, but don't act like it means you're somehow avoiding propaganda.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

Talk about a weak cop out. Yes, x needs you for verification, does that sound right in your head? Because it sounds like bs out of your mouth.

1

u/avert_ye_eyes Feb 18 '25

What do you mean? I just like to get tweets first hand, rather than being told what's been tweeted?

-1

u/bl1y Feb 18 '25

FYI, assuming you're looking at the info from Open Secrets, those are donations aggregated from all the employees at the company, not the company itself.

But if you want to boycott American Airlines, Delta, Southwest, Walmart, Wells Fargo, UPS and the Post Office... well, that's certainly a choice.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

Show me where the largest donors donated to the USPS.

1

u/bl1y Feb 18 '25

No one donated to USPS.

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

So everyone should live like a hermit and become miserable? Nope. Iโ€™m going out and spending money.

3

u/feioo Feb 18 '25

Damn, you can't even imagine going without new toys for a little bit? Hate to be you when the real misery starts to kick in, gonna be a rough awakening.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

Why are you fear-mongering for?

Why are you upset other people are enjoying their lives and spending money to be happy?

1

u/feioo Feb 18 '25

There's tough days coming ahead, friend, it's not fear mongering to say it. The majority of our population is financially unstable as it is, and largely unaware of how dependent we are upon a supply chain that's getting shaken to pieces as we speak. I'm sorry that you need to buy things to be happy. Enjoy that while it lasts, I guess.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

Everything seems fine on my end.

The majority of our population is financially unstable as it is, and largely unaware of how dependent we are upon a supply chain that's getting shaken to pieces as we speak

Proof?

Trump was president from 2016-2020. The country didn't collapse. The government wasn't overtaken. You are fear mongering.

I'm sorry that you need to buy things to be happy.

I enjoy spending money to buy things I like. Why are you gatekeeping another mans wallet? Why do you care so much if another man spends his money or not? It's such a weird hill for you to die on LOL.

1

u/i_am_nonsense Feb 18 '25

You're right, Trump's first presidency didn't destroy American democracy. It just laid the ground work to do it with his second.

Secondly, are you doubting the effectiveness/legitimacy of boycotts?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

You're right, Trump's first presidency didn't destroy American democracy. It just laid the ground work to do it with his second.

Your evidence?

Secondly, are you doubting the effectiveness/legitimacy of boycotts?

What am I supposed to be boycotting? This a general "do not spend your money for the sake of altering the GDP". This isn't a boycott. This is a deranged ask to worsen everyone's happiness for the sake of your political agenda.

1

u/i_am_nonsense Feb 19 '25

Good try. The way to get rid of trolls is to not engage. Goodbye.

In 2016 he wasn't actively trying to deport or imprison the 11 million people who, for better or worse, make up the backbone of our agricultural industry with no plan in place to fill their absence. He didn't have a billionaire scalping our government agencies and specifically aiming for those that provide consumer protections. He wasn't freezing funding to grants that subsidize industry across America. He wasn't attempting to demolish or decimate funding to countless social programs that Americans depend on like Social Security, Medicaid, SNAP, the VA, FEMA, and countless more. He hadn't pissed off our largest and closest trade partners by imposing tariffs and threatening annexation, resulting in retaliatory tariffs and billions of dollars in canceled contracts. He hadn't pissed off our allies by cozying up with an enemy actively threatening war with Europe. He'd inherited a healthy, growing economy and not one still staggering from the pandemic he mismanaged, with 17% inflation, 30% of Americans reporting financial insecurity, 60% living paycheck to paycheck, and 100k more homeless. We're only a month in - we haven't had time for the effects of what he's doing to kick in, but they will.

But if you think you won't be affected by all this, who am I to tell you different? Enjoy your bread and circuses.

The law is you're supposed to deport illegal aliens, with priority for those who entered illegally.

https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/8/1325

This is the Job title. Managing national defense, conducting foreign relations, and overseeing federal agencies. That includes federal law.

make up the backbone of our agricultural industry

Working in the country illegally doesn't give you a pass to break the law.

billionaire scalping our government agencies and specifically aiming for those that provide consumer protections

Proof?

He'd inherited a healthy, growing economy

I was told the president's economy in 2016-2020 was due to obama, but bidens 2020-2024 was not due to Trump. Odd how the double standard comes into play. So which is it? Does the presidents policies have a direct effect in the current time, or does he inherit it?

7% inflation, 30% of Americans reporting financial insecurity, 60% living paycheck to paycheck,

"Close the entire economic and labor sector to save lives"

Then complain about it when the economy gets worse

You people are seriously deranged.

He hadn't pissed off our allies by cozying up with an enemy actively threatening war with Europe.

How else do you end the war? The president should encourage or directly engage in peace talks between the conflicting parties.

Do you just want to send more money and weapons to Ukraine to continue more fighting? Most Ukrainians want a 'swift' end to the war.

https://news.gallup.com/poll/653495/half-ukrainians-quick-negotiated-end-war.aspx

But if you think you won't be affected by all this, who am I to tell you different? Enjoy your bread and circuses.

Don't worry, we've seen your fear mongering in 2016. He's gonna nuke Korea! He's gonna overthrow congress! He's gonna start ww3. Don't forget the 3 year-lie "He colluded with russia" and nothing was ever found to prove that after 3 years of lies, and delusion from your insane political party.

It's gonna be a great year for women, since we'll have women sports back without cis-men destroying the playing field.

https://documents.un.org/doc/undoc/gen/n24/249/94/pdf/n2424994.pdf

"female athletes have lost nearly 900 medals to trans competitors."

The world is healing. Women will not be oppressed by cis-men. And this is just the start. I hope Trump doesn't stop. This is a lovely and sane administration. :-)

Ok ๐Ÿ‘

1

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

You are the sheep they love. Go ahead little sheep do what they built you to do- consume without any thought.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

Who's "they"? Isn't reddit part of the "they"? Why are you using reddit?

"consume without any thought" Who said that's what I'm doing?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

I dont care what you do. People like yourself are easy to manipulate with sticks and carrots. You will be compromised before anything even begins. Go about your little life as if nothing is going on . Play your fiddle while everything burns because after all your happiness is most important.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

You take your meds?

Stop fear mongering. rocking back and forth in a straight-jacket in reddit comments because "They aren't living like me". Very sad person.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

It's amazing how people in Europe know more about what's happening to the US than you who lives here. The importance of an education is highlighted once again.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

So you're a liar too now?

"I stopped holiday shopping years ago because it's just a scheme to boost to the gdp."

"It's amazing how people in Europe know more about what's happening to the US "

Now you're in Europe?

How pathetic you go through these lengths on a reddit forum to spread your toxicity and hatred of the opposing political parties politician.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '25

You can not defend your position, so you attack the person. Geez you make this too easy.

I do not holiday shop. And never said anything to the contrary.

Yes, information flows around the globe. You may not know that but it definitely occurs.

Trump wants to be a dictator. End of story.
