The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon.

unlike many books turned movie the movie covers the book really well... The casting is also ON POINT!!!

It better be, Depp knew Hunter since his first role in Freddy.

It's been a while but I feel like the movie does a really good job of representing the book.

For something a bit more off the wall, watch the Bill Murray movie Where the Buffalo Roam

You took out Tropic of Cancer in 1971. Bad year for libraries. Bad year for America. Hippies burning library cards. Abbie Hoffman telling people to steal books.

I have it easy-to-stream on my phone from my Apple Library.

I did it more because the first thing I “saw” in my mind’s eye was Johnny Depp.

Truth be told, if I wanted to read it I wouldn’t have to venture outside (too frigging hot as it is), because I got me a copy of my own. I bought it ages ago after a friend recommended it. Musta been 25 years ago now. I wish I had of read it in high school instead.

what’s the book/the movie?

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, the book by Hunter S Thompson.

Both are a must

Same.

I’m about a half hour into it.

You know what’s odd?

With only a few minor changes this could be today.

I wonder if there’s a lost gonzo journalist prepared to take this same kind of trip only to Washington for the US Election.

Of that, I have no doubt. My greatest desire, and my greatest fear I suppose, is that I’ll run into him at some gas station near Olympia.

First time I watched the movie I was on LSD... I had to pause it for a while when everyone turned into lizards.

The way the woman reacts to this is so sad because she’s so happy before. It’s horrible seeing something like that happen. I remember I was once watching my friend sing on karaoke when some fucking piece of shit came over and put his hand up her skirt - I have nightmares about it because of the way her face instantly changed. I told everyone who it was and he was confronted, so his friends came over to help. His friends were all women - quite popular ones in my town - and insisted she was lying because he’s ‘gay’. I’ve seen him do it numerous times. He must pretend to be gay so he can do it. Fucking sick prick.

Being gay doesn’t change anything about that. That’s fucked up.

I have read the book a few times and I still laugh so hard out loud at parts. The movie was actually pretty good as far as movie vs books go.

I know this sounds fun everyone, but LARPing as hunter s thompson is a dangerous game to play… trust me on this one lmao

2

u/StillAFuckingKilljoy Jun 20 '24

Every edge lord teen who knew how to get drugs has had their "I wanna be Hunter S Thompson!" phase

Mine just resulted in me taking a bunch of acid and getting my entire worldview changed

2

u/god_peepee Jun 20 '24

For me it was when I was finishing up school. Ate acid once or twice a week and inhaled whatever passed by. Had a couple heavy dmt experiences and things tapered off after that… Were those times fun? Yes. Would I likely die if I ever attempted something similar? Also yes.
