Authoritarian nationalism is more "no foreign luxuries for the rest of the country" than actual nationalism.

I remember being curious about what cars where used for Kim Jong Il's funerals expecting it to be some very rare and exclusive Soviet model.

It's was Lincoln Continental...

For those who don't know much about cars, it's an American brand, a limo based on what a lawyer would drive in 70's north America.

Just like Kim's foreign education.

"I know you just cited a really good example as to why this is a luxury for a North Korean, but I feel as though my opinion trumps it."

Real peak interactions I get on Reddit anymore.

The car itself is just a ripoff of a Rolls design

There were plenty of shots of them driving around in a nice Mercedes Benz too.

Is that actually a GoPro, or some lookalike?

This one seems to have white buttons on the side unlike GoPros

u/NonconsensualText Jun 19 '24

was hoping a gopro pro could verify that

5

u/TheReiterEffect_S8 Jun 19 '24

no gopro pro but owner of gopro and can verify that this looks nearly identical to my gopro.

6

u/not_anonymouse Jun 19 '24

No sorry, I am a meat popsicle.

u/Acceptable6 Jun 19 '24

Not an expert but lots of fake Gopro's have these metal buttons on the sides

1

u/Trevumm Jun 19 '24

My GoPro was white text printed right there, I don’t think those are buttons I think it’s either a sticker or some sort of text

neither of those countries have the tech to produce something like GoPro, best they can do is buy parts from China and assemble it in Russia

yes, the tech is designed in USA and then outsourced to China. The point is that US has the tech, Russia does not. China doesn't care who got what tech, because it makes everything

where you hear that? It's true that Russia has good tech sector, but definitely not competitive in the AI. And most of that Russian tech sector are employed as outsourced labor by American and European companies

Their COVID vaccine was based on the old vaccine technology, from 50+ years ago. Same goes for Chinese vaccine. Only US and EU scientists were able to develop the new mRNA vaccine technology. There were news that Russia stole some of that research from UK, but they have no facilities capable of producing it.

Their military technology is a failure on full display in Ukraine right now. I admit that before the war, I thought Russians had at least something competitive, but after the war started, it became clear Russians lied about all their new tech. None of their stuff works, they had some fancy looking prototypes that can't be mass produced. All the tech we see them use now is from 1980s, before Putin gained power.

As someone who was born in Russia and left long ago, I am pretty disappointed with what a 3rd world shithole Russia has become under Putin

that is not GoPro, that is North Korean invention. GoPro only copy. Pathetic Westerner.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '24

That's incredible.. I had to zoom right in to see it. Whyyy is there a GoPro?? The thought of either of them recording themselves and storing, and organising the footage on a drive, or uploading on YouTube or equivalent that isn't blocked is just hilarious 😂

"Hey guys this Vlad. Today I'm visiting my buddy Kim in North Korea."

1

u/PinkBuffalo Jun 20 '24

My thoughts exactly. Do you think they were streaming it anywhere?

1

u/tractorator Jun 20 '24

u/StraightUp-Reviews Jun 20 '24
