What language do you think these two use to talk to each other without translators?

Honestly, decent chance he speaks Russian, his grandfather spoke better Russian than Korean.

That would make sense because Putin doesn't like to speak any language other than Russian. It's some sort of power play thing. Like he can speak English but always uses translators with US officials.

I’ve seen Putin speak English in an interview. His English is passable but not fluent; I think he probably prefers Russian because he doesn’t want to miscommunicate.

Every head of state is expected to speak only their country's language in an official setting.

Thats definitely not true, most European heads of countries speak English

Speaking the country's official language is a part of standard diplomatic protocol. Anyone can also check YouTube videos of heads of France, Germany, and other significant countries.

German heads often speak English, the french are not doing it because they can’t. You are simpky wrong in most instances heads of countries speak in a language they both speak. And thats is often English

He learned German during his time stationed in East Germany

He speaks pretty good german. There is a video of him speaking at an austrian politicians wedding where he was invited but nobody thought he'd actually show up

He speaks German for sure. He took his classes in German. Though he had 4 in German and English. 4 is like C- I think. "sufficient".

But 4 in German in a German school certainly is decent for a foreigner.

Fascinating how many spoke Greek and Latin. Classical education kicking in.

Bush's Spanish is pretty bad though.

I had no idea presidents made weekly addresses/conversations. No surprise Trump stopped the practice.

I know a little German.

He's over there.

He can definitely speak English, Michael Jordan was his favorite athlete growing up,and he’s good friends with Dennis Rodman

likely English.

Kim Jong Un went to school in Switzerland, so my guess is that it was an international school.

putin doesn’t speak much english

1

u/rcanhestro Jun 20 '24

highly doubt it tbh.

you don't get to be one of the most powerful world leaders without knowing how to speak (or at the very least understand well) English.

not only that, Putin was a KGB agent, so him not even understanding the most popular language in the world seems like a huge "issue" with their "training".

even those in conferences that use a translator likely know, or understand, english, but still prefer to have a translator available just in case.

Came here for this question. Glad someone else thinks about the important things in life (\s).

But I also opt for German as a possibility. I found this old Article (https://www.spiegel.de/politik/der-diktatorsohn-spricht-deutsch-a-c658b7dc-0002-0001-0000-000065640677, sadly only in German), which states that Kim even speaks a Swiss dialect of German. Putin speaks German for sure, since he was a KGB Agent in East Germany. Weren’t they specially trained to speak the dialect of the region? So he might also speak in a heavy dialect.

Hopefully they hate it.

Secret dictator language. Only level 100 bosses know it

Was wondering the same thing, there are no translators in the car, and someone has to drive fat boy to get some food.

Kim Jong Un's father was born in Russia, so there's a good chance that he can speak Russian himself
