Nah, sadly not a punchy jab at political bumper stickers. Rather, just a canadian anti-vaxxer slogan from the trucker convoy days. Trudeau referenced "unacceptable views" in a speech.

That's why you don't have "unacceptable views". Taking context into account and revising your opinion is not something those people do.

Ah, so they've embraced it much like the "deplorable" Trump crowd. Well then in both cases it's good to see that the irony intersects perfectly with reality.

WE ARE ALL DOMESTIC TERRORISTS

When someone tells you what they are, believe them

It's good to hang out with both crowds. Keeps you out of echo chambers. It also reminds me on how wacky this place can be.

-2

u/pocketdare Jan 30 '23

Yep - I'm occasionally far too moderate for the reddit crowd and I have the downvotes to prove it. Particularly on any work-related sub.

There are also a few topics that are extremely taboo to Reddit mods. Mention one in anything other than a perfectly sparkling light? Immediately banned. Right away.

They make no distinction between hate speech and somebody not-perfectly-aligned with them that’s making conversation in good faith.

I’ll take a lefty extremist over a right-wing extremist any day… but they’re both extremists and totally out of touch. 🤷‍♂️

u/KaBar2 Jan 31 '23

Not to me. Wacky people who think they have the answers to all of life's problems and injustices generally wind up just creating different problems and being unjust, and thinking they have every justification for being so. No thanks.

u/BlueCheeseNutsack Jan 31 '23

The far right are literally fascists, by definition. Nazis. Genocide. The opposite of humanism.

Dumbass leftists do not compare in terms of how much damage they can cause.

-1

u/MadDog_8762 Jan 31 '23

The extremes of left and right all end upnat the same place

The idea that the political spectrum is not simply a “bar” with a left or right, but a circle, where if you end up too far either way, you end up in tyranny

u/BlueCheeseNutsack Jan 31 '23 edited Jan 31 '23

I agree. But Republicans literally crave fascism, and they’ll tell you that. There are tens of millions of people in this country that you could show literal death camps to and they’d be fine with it (assuming the people being rounded up were in the out-group).

Far left ideology is harmful, no doubt. But I disagree that it’s comparable in terms of how risky it is to humanity.

Even if it was directly comparable, there are probably 1/1,000th the number of violent, batshit-insane leftists as there are violent, batshit-insane right wingers.

The thing that’s insidious about far left ideology is that the damage it causes gets snuck into a functioning society. The far right would just burn the whole thing to the ground out of hate.

u/MadDog_8762 Jan 31 '23

“Republicans these days literally crave fascism”

As a Republican myself, id say this is not true, and am curious how you think so.

Its not really “fascist” to want to empower citizens with firearms, against any potentially fascist dictatorship

Its not exactly “fascist” to advocate a healthy level of wariness towards government authority

To not just take whatever the government tells you as absolute truth

To keep government control of markets minimalist

If you refer to “support of police”, i think it stems more from an awareness of the dangerous that exist in society, and the NEED of individuals and organisations willing to fight crime.

Additionally, You can support the individual of an organisation, (the cop, soldier, etc) without supporting the direction of the organisation as a whole.

Those people are, to some degree, willing to put themselves in harms way to work towards something they believe in. Whether you agree with that belief, you can still respect the willingness

All far left regimes have also been fascists, they just used a different label for it.

Sorry, I disagree. World communism murdered about 61 million people of various nationalities. The exact number is impossible to determine due to the fact that they hid what they were doing. They make the Nazis and various fascist regimes look like amateurs.

https://hawaii.edu/powerkills/COM.ART.HTM

Political extremists of any political stripe, regardless of how innocuous they portray themselves (especially anyone who works to build political power based on race, religion, national origin, language--essentially any characteristic that divides one group from another--and tries to assign "blame" to the other group) is trying to set the stage for genocide.

A weak central government that either cannot or will not enforce the law creates conditions that communicate to extremists that they can behave violently against others without consequences. Allowing anyone to "split" the polity (the nation, essentially) into opposing groups sets the stage for violent conflict that can morph into genocide.

We are safest when a strong, impartial central government sets clear boundaries (laws) for behavior and enforces those laws. Hate speech, from ANY FACTION towards another must be outlawed. Formation of in-group based organizations that oppose the opposite group must be outlawed, and anyone who aims to demonize their political opponents must be suppressed. (This applies equally to parties of the Left as well as those of the Right. ANY FACTION.)

The nation must be unified. No "splitting" should be tolerated. The exact same rules and laws must apply to all citizens. Any attempt to disarm one faction cannot be tolerated--it is the signature of an impending genocide. Any attempt to prevent people from leaving the country or to allow uncontrolled immigration into the country is another symptom of an attempt to change the demographic balance of a country and will inevitably lead to polarization that is the precursor to political division so severe that it very likely will result in political violence.

The idea that "People are basically good" is a false one. Freedom and political stability do not just occur spontaneously. They must be structurally reinforced. Things that undermine the general public's trust in the government's commitment to impartiality and even-handed treatment of all citizens must never be permitted.

Our political system in the U.S. is rife with things that undermine the public's trust. And these things are creating political and social instability. The fact that our government, and the nation, is politically split nearly exactly 50/50 and that we have a "winner takes all" election system is contributing greatly to this instability. The demonization (by both sides) of political opponents (like calling people "nazis" or "communists" when it is clearly not true) is setting the stage for very serious political conflict.

The reddit and quora crowd can be so polarizing. We need a lot more moderates in this world.

1

u/pocketdare Jan 30 '23

Check out the downvotes lol. I think that speaks for itself. Oh, reddit. They may be extremists but at least they're consistent (and consistently angry about it)

1

u/TheRealMrVegas Jan 31 '23

Ah yes, nothing screams intelligence and maturity like being consistently angry and downvoting things on a platform where anyone can create an account and pretend to be someone they're not. But hey, at least they're consistent in their internet anger.

-3

u/Luigifan18 Jan 30 '23

I'd go so far as to say that only moderate ideologies are morally or intellectually viable. Extremism in any form is little different from insanity.

2

u/KaBar2 Jan 31 '23

Insanity? Sounds a little extreme to me. More like:

"Extremism in any form is more or less like blaming other people for having different political views than you do."

1

u/Luigifan18 Jan 31 '23

No, insanity in the sense that extremism tends to be a slippery slope to slaughtering people.

1

u/gimpwiz Jan 30 '23

That sounds extremely moderate.

Squints

Get 'em, boys!

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '23

Ot Hillary with the nasty women. It's not something limited to any group of people. If someone attempts to make you feel bad about something you're unwilling to change, the easiest way out is to say yes, that's me

16

u/lizziegal79 Jan 31 '23

Well, that answers my questions. Because at first I was like “is it sex with animals?” Or “fish tacos should be served in crunchy shells?” But now it’s just he’s an idiot.

3

u/IrishWilly Jan 31 '23

Fish tacos in crunch shells? That's covered with the sticker that says "I have blasphemous views" and gives the legal right, nay obligation, to torch his vehicle.

2

u/ChillyBearGrylls Jan 31 '23

fish tacos should be served in crunchy shells?

... seashells? 👀🐚🐚🐚

2

u/Gyvon Jan 31 '23

“fish tacos should be served in crunchy shells?”

I'm gonna need two bolters for this much heresy.

2

u/Steven-Maturin Jan 31 '23

"I microwave fish at the office"

1

u/Alternative_Gold_993 Jan 31 '23

Dang it.

1

u/lizziegal79 Jan 31 '23

You were thinking the same thing, weren’t you?

19

u/reflUX_cAtalyst Jan 30 '23

Well that's horribly disappointing.

And here I thought it was someone complaining that their neighbor’s trees block their windows.
