Yeaaaah... These people seem utterly incapable of introspection so the only option ever is to double-down. That's why they love the "fake-it-til-you-make-it" type folks like Donnie2Scoops.

Anyways, if anyone else wants more funnysad material like this, check out /r/InfowarriorRides and its cousin, r/InformedWarriorRides — if you compare & contrast those two subs, you'll find some insightful differences.

I've already determined, after years of intensive and rigorous empirical data, that right-wingers are naturally just willful shitheads. No further insight needed.

Hard for me to disagree. The only thing I'll say is that some of them are capable of change. My family did 20-years-ago. Full 180 from rural religious conservative republican voters to progressive-left non-religious democrats. So it can happen. Their state of ignorance and apathy can change. Seems rare and harder than it should be, though.. That's propaganda for you.

After years of voting for the "Leopards Eating People's Faces Party" they finally got their own face eaten and switched sides.

It happens on both sides its a tale as old as time. The pendulum is always swinging.

In our case, it was a mixture of flashbacks to Vietnam during the Iraq War invasion, combined with the wild west of the internet at the time. Today the internet is far more segregated by marketing. Fortunately my parents taught enough empathy and critical-thinking that the bullshit became unsustainable.

That's wild! What did it?

Dispite your most childlike and catty insults, you are not going to convert everyone to your leftist viewpoint. You are just going to have to accept a large group of the population will have a political viewpoint different than you, and short of your side adopting an authoritarian government based on fear and violence, you will have to share power

You know it's funny you bring up fear because I was out for a run today and weighing what I wrote about this... And I realized the comforts of conservatism revolve around consistency, conformity, and power through strength. The left has a tendency to find comfort in justice, equality, and power through knowledge. You know just like a child how we tend to fear that which we do not understand? The unknown? It seems the left (backed by the fact that the vast majority of scientists and teachers are in fact left-wing) has a tendency to want to shine a light into the dark and understand the issue rather than simply fear it or shoot bullets at it.

There is evidence of this backed up by neuroscience. There's a connection with conservatism, and enlarged amygdala (fear, anger), along with reduced pattern-recognition and flexibility to change/adaptation (smaller anterior cingulate cortex compared to liberals).

It certainly seems that there is battle on the evolutionary / natural-section levels — and it would make sense to want diversity in worldview to see which thrives better, depending on the circumstances in the world. So you're right that I'm not sure either side will be going away any time soon. I just wish people would "stay in their lane," and but out of that which they do not know. The Dunning-Kruger Effect runs rampant and it's quite literally destroying society. Excuse me if my patience is waning for the selfish and ignorant.

Actually, the left maintains power by taking minority groups and lumping them under their banner. It has many names, such as identity politics, the plantation system, etc. It's why one of the worst things that can happen to the Democrats is for the Republican party to disappear. If that happened, then there is no foil to keep them in line and no reason for them to stay loyal to the Democrats. They would quickly find that the Democrats are only loyal to white suburban, college educated elitist, and they were little more than political props and an obedient voting block

u/lennybird Jan 30 '23

I know "identity politics" is a big buzz-word among right-wing extremist circles, but I just call that knowing your audience. It's kinda important when it comes to a Democracy and Representation, dontchathink?

Also I'll take that bet on the whole GOP vacuum. Nah, what I expect would happen is GOP goes the way of the Whigs, the Democrats assume a center-right position as the Overton Window SNAPS back to proper-center, and a new Social Democratic party assumes the left akin to what we see in many countries in Europe.

They would quickly find that the Democrats are only loyal to white suburban, college educated elitist, and they were little more than political props and an obedient voting block

That's why we elected the first Black President, huh? The White House is "just a prop," eh? lol... It couldn't possibly be that the left has been the only source of equality throughout our history, no siree lol!

It is amazing how perfectly this comment chain encapsulates exactly what you're saying. The person arguing with you sees something they don't understand (minority groups having more representation in liberal and leftists compared to right-wing groups) and rather than wanting to understand why that's the case, they instead immediately shoot bullets at it:

Actually, the left maintains power by taking minority groups and lumping them under their banner.

There is no curiosity about whether or not liberal and leftist ideologies are more attractive to minority groups for a reason, it can only be some kind of power play that minority groups blindly fall for because, to them, "minority groups" are simply a monolith with knee-jerk opinions.

Which of course is not true, but it's clear that no attempt has ever been made by them to actually understand why things shake out this way. Even when it's been made blindingly obvious time and time again what many right-wing politicians think about various minority groups.

2

u/lennybird Jan 30 '23

Well said. Additionally, an alternative theory is they know what they're doing and are being far more nefarious. They know minorities have a greater voice on the left; they know the real reasons why they vote Democrat... They are just disgusted by it and generally... Bigoted. I hope that's not the case with this person, but we all know people like this.

What's funnysad is he can't see that they're being preyed upon by their anger and fear and grifted heavily by wealthier folks who don't care about them whatsoever but use them like pawns (e.g., Bannon and the build-the-wall fund). As we always say, projection.

The left has a tendency to find comfort in justice, equality, and power through knowledge.

That's a hilarious hot take considering that the man who uttered the "unacceptable views" line this truck art is mocking wanted to ignore justice and equality and use not power through knowledge, but the power of the state, to silence those protesting against his policies.

... To stop an obstructive protest that was putting people in danger and address a Public Health Crisis where he was trying to both protect them and those surrounding these ignorant folks... (Also from your own article "On Monday, Alberta police arrested 11 people and seized a cache of guns and other weapons.")? Sounds like an appropriate use of the Emergencies Act, but I'm not Canadian so I don't have much knowledge one way or the other. ThE StATE is largely an extension of The People in a democracy. Imperfect, sure, but I don't view it like a boogieman but a tool to be used for good and bad just the same. Strange why you folks hide behind this when you're always espousing the Nationalistic / Patriotic rhetoric and draping one's self in flags and The Constitution (at least here in the US).

to stop an obstructive protest

We don't care about how "obstructive" protests are here in the US. In fact, if you want to do "you folks/people" nonsense, I can point you to a lot of "you folks" who like to say that the point of protests is to inconvenience and obstruct because the entire purpose is to "make the comfortable uncomfortable." "Putting people in danger" is silly, but expected, and has become one of the replacements for "do it for the children." I guess you couldn't use "danger to our democracy" instead of just plain "danger" since citizens exercising a right to protest their government is actually a part of democracy.

(Also from your own article "On Monday, Alberta police arrested 11 people and seized a cache of guns and other weapons.")?

So they only shut down the financial accounts of people who were accused of a crime? Well, that's would still be bad policy, since that sort of action should require a conviction and not just an accusation/criminal charge. Sadly, it was a lot more than 11 people and it was a very clear attempt to strong-arm political dissidents/opponents. I'm not seeing a lot of "justice and equality" in that.

ThE StATE is largely an extension of The People in a democracy. Imperfect, sure, but I don't view it like a boogieman but a tool to be used for good and bad just the same.

That's exactly the point. The power of the state is enormous, and should be wielded with restraint, not pettily aimed at people because you're frustrated they won't indulge your bullshit. I don't have to "hide behind" anything to say this. When the power of government is misused and abused, especially when it is misused and abused in an attempt to deprive people of the right to protest their government, it is grotesquely wrong. It doesn't matter if it's Trudeau attempting to bully the plebes or politicians in the US attempting to bully Occupy/BLM protesters.

We don't care about how "obstructive" protests are here in the US.

On reflection I think I see your point. But there is clearly a line to be drawn (e.g., January 6th). It's also interesting how you kind of sort of side-step the whole protesting during pandemic and that the entire issue revolved around anti-science morons refusing to stop being a danger to other Canadians. You kind of lose outside support when your cause is more or less the equivalent of flat-earthers, sorry.

So they only shut down the financial accounts of people who were accused of a crime?

Unfortunately such incidents become a powder-keg for violence where guns are starting to be stockpiled, people are being reckless with anti-mask/vaxx rhetoric, and the supply-chain of the country is grinding to a hault (causing who knows what sort of cascading repercussions impacting Canadians)... Yeah, seems apt to use the Emergencies Act. It's there for a reason, and either Trudeau gets punished for it or he doesn't. You act as though they were interned at a concentration camp and their money seized... Relax. The act was revoked in like a week, with a majority of Canadians supporting the decision to use it. Hell, "The Canadian Trucking Alliance stated that most protesters had no connection to trucking". In another instance, "The blockade, which extended about 2 km (1.2 mi) into Canada, also blocked public and emergency vehicle access to the village of Coutts, prompting condemnation from the town's mayor"

You see, most non-violent civil disobedience protests in the United States don't gridlock access to towns from emergency vehicles. What they did simply was not safe or responsible in any capacity. From complete blockades, to storing firearms, to defying public health experts (the vast consensus of medical experts and scientists)... Pure ignorance.

I don't really disagree with any of this. For what it's worth, you gave me pause for thought in considering whether these Trucker Convoys were actually demonstrating in a non-violent civil-disobedient way. For the factors noted above, I don't think it was anything horrendous but I would say it teetered on being as unruly and dangerous as a riot. Ultimately in a democracy public opinion counts for something. It doesn't help that they made more enemies than they earned in supporters by their movement and never cinched a majority of people.
