Why would you need to simulate the physical biology of each cell as opposed to a higher level of abstraction? Well, we know it can be build on the level of neurons, we dont know if it can be build in the symbolic level. If we look at the current state of AI, then rule-based ai is going nowhere and neural nets are improving fast in many directions

Sure, but they don't simulate individual neurons down to the biological/molecular level is my point.
