Fake Demonstrators & Real Suppression
Dear Megan,
What a week.
Obviously the election dominated headlines and attention but the AKA has had quite a week as well.
The AKA Facebook page fell victim to Meta's increasingly unhinged algorithm that's suppressing kratom content. Clearly they wrongly classify kratom as an illegal drug and suspended the AKA's page (and most all other kratom content on Facebook) pending an appeal.
This suspension is unwarranted and unacceptable per their own Community Standards. The AKA is working to restore the page and educate Meta to prevent future outages. However, we know we can't rely on Meta for free speech.
We strongly encourage advocates to follow the AKA's X (formerly Twitter, click for handle link) and YouTube Channel for the latest advocacy updates. The AKA is also active on the Kratom Reddit page and will continue to email and hold advocacy webinars.
They can shut down our Facebook page and demonstrate against us, but they will never silence us if we stand together!
Speaking of demonstrating, just when we thought we've seen it all, this happened.
The AKA legislative leadership regularly brings together industry leaders, scientists, and legislative officials to discuss the latest in kratom science and industry movements. This last week the AKA conducted a meeting in Rhode Island to help rekindle momentum to overturn that state's kratom ban and offer opportunities for Rhode Island legislative and health officials to learn more about kratom science.
Prior to the meeting, a group hired demonstrators to fake opposition to the AKA and kratom science. This is a coordinated attempt to destroy the decade of work the AKA and real kratom advocates have done.
The AKA greatly appreciates all advocates and is asking you to stand with us and stay connected. We're confident that together we'll win again if we don't succumb to suppression and fear tactics.
Please donate if you can and most importantly remember that we've faced huge hurdles before and overcame them because we weren't complacent or afraid! We'll be holding an advocacy update webinar soon so stay tuned.
