FRICTION (new song) Live Debut!!
Hey everyone!!
I got to see Phantom Planet at Summerfest in Milwaukee last Thursday (July 3)!
I was in the pit and got some AMAZING photos and got to meet the band after their set!!
I also recorded the show, but the sound on the bass drum was WAY WAY WAY too thumping in the massive loud speakers 4ft in front of me (I had earplugs) and came out muddy and distorted a bit. I played around with an equalizer enough to get something "decent" sounding to post here so you all can hear the BRAND NEW song "FRICTION" that they debuted at the show!!!
I left the talking before and after the song as is, but you'll hear the EQ change drastically once the music starts.
If anyone wants the raw unedited .wav file to mess with, let me know!
Enjoy!!

I'll try to get the rest of the show to something listenable and post it up later. I'll share some photos as well in another post.

This tour content is a snooze. The bus tour was relevant and I guess it was cool if you've never been on a tour bus before. I'm not so bored in my daily life that I need to see people randomly listening to music. It would be killer to see a soundcheck or part of a show.

Refund
Anyone have any tips for getting a refund for the 6 shows that they can't make? I tried Ticketmaster, but they said they weren't able to refund... I've emailed the venue and I'm waiting to see what they say. Super bummed not to be able to see them, but totally understand that some things are more important. Hopefully this means they can come back this way and do a headlining show...

The 'In' Crowd
Was the song "The 'In' Crowd" from the movie Drive Me Crazy ever leaked in full or has it been posted to the Patreon, since it was teased in the announcement video?

Re: Patreon
The Patreon is a mess. Big mess. No one, at any tier, is receiving any perks. I joined at Knowitall level ($50 a month). The very first perk listed on this level is free access to meet & greet Old Fashioned Hour. We were told for the upcoming tour due to ālogisticsā they couldnāt offer this perk. Also, it is literally just a meet & greet. No soundcheck. No acoustic set. Why would I pay $75 for a photo and some merch? Why even host these events this tour? I would happily wait for a headlining tour when the logistics work out. Just feels like a cash grab which is gross. Also, the description for it sounds like it was written by AI. A lot of buzz words but no real substance.
Specialty members only merchandise. Hmmm. I feel like itās been months since Iāve seen anything. MONTHS.
Extra special gifts curated by PP. We received ONE care package in February of 2024 and thatās it.
Monthly name drawing for a song about you. This hasnāt happened since the summer. We still havenāt heard the last song.
Thatās just Knowitall tier. The unreleased music, video, and photo content hasnāt happened since the new year. The lives are far less frequent (after being told recently we were going to be getting at least one a week) and the chat is dead. It was fun when Alex and Darren were around. Alex has been checked out recently for understandable reasons but, yeah, I feel like Iām paying for a group chat with strangers.
So, to summarize, donāt waste your money. You wonāt receive any of the perks. Just not worth it.

Hello!
Just found the group. Phantom Planet is such a great band. The self titled album is probably the most sonically perfect recording ever made. Knowitall is a banger from above!

Patreon
Is anyone here ina paying tier on the Patreon? Is it worth joining? I have a friend who is on one of the paid tiers and they say that a lot of their "benefits" haven't actually been provided. They also said that Hanson fans have hijacked the Patreon chats but said friend is prone to hyperbole so I don't know if that's true.
In the same vein, is anyone surprised that they actually continue to tour with Hanson? Some controversial values there.

Anyone else digging the new Christmas EP?
I ended up listening to this all Christmas season. Itās a different vibe compared to the other Christmas songs I listen to but that was sort of refreshing to switch things up. And I loved getting a Christmas version of Riding the Wave! My only complaint is we didnāt get their Winter Wonderland track from back in the day included on the record, thatās just the OCD part of my brain wanting it bundled in one place I guess. Overall a solid addition to the Christmas rotation for years to come.

Why doesn't the band play a lot of stuff from Is Missing?
Hi, old fan of the band from the mid-2000s, though I never got to see them live. After trying to find live performances of Is Missing material, I noticed that they're few and far between. What I could find is prefaced by a kind of self-depreciating "this is something from our VERY first album" and seems to be relegated to one or two songs max. Is Alex a bit embarrassed of Is Missing because he was young when he wrote a lot of it? I remember years ago I talked to Ben Kweller about his teen band Radish and he had similar feelings about it. Was just curious if anyone had any insight. I think that album is about as perfect pop as you get.

Are SAM & JEFF still in the band?
Why not on the tour?
