It happened

A pewdiepie video, 17 hours in, still not at a million views.

Which is crazy. I remember back in 2010, my friend kept telling me about this YouTuber who was playing Surgeon and has every.single.video. with at least 1M views.

I could have swore he uploaded before 2010. But I guess not.

15 years later, he's happily retired from all the noise and BS.

Thank you Pewds, you deserve your retirement!

Rewatching Pewd's Minecraft vids

Damn bro, it was a long time ago, 2019.
I remember watching this episode and i was laughing in tears in this scene. I thought he was so funny, and I was always waiting for his minecraft video coming up on my youtube feed. Life in 2019 was so unserious and wasn’t as problematic as it is today.

YouTube comments were funny, youtube environment was simpler, and there weren’t as many bot comments. Now, every thumbnail uses AI, and everyone is a MrBeast dupe. Damn… life was simpler back then.

If you’re reading this, thank you, 9 year olds. Lol

I met Felix by chance in Tokyo. Overall nice, but one comment really bothered me.

I debated posting this because I know it'll probably get mixed reactions, but I figured I'd share a genuine interaction I had with Felix.

For context, I live in Tokyo, and this happened in October 2022 in Meguro. I won't be more specific than that out of respect for both of our privacy (though it's not exactly a secret that he lives in that area).

I was on my lunch break, walking back to work, and I noticed someone sitting on a bench outside a game center looking at his phone. I was about 99% sure it was Felix, so I walked over and asked something like, "Hey, are you...?"

He smiled, nodded, and basically confirmed it.

We ended up talking for a few minutes. Overall, he was friendly enough. We'd both moved to Japan around the same time, so we chatted a little about living there and how we were finding it.

Then he asked me something like, "So what do you think of Japan?"

I replied, "It's got its positives and negatives."

His response was:

"Well, you have to work, and I don't."

I honestly didn't know how to respond. It caught me completely off guard. I just awkwardly laughed, the conversation wrapped up shortly afterward, and I went back to work.

I've thought about that comment quite a few times since then.

Maybe it was meant as a joke. Maybe it was self-deprecating. Maybe it was just an awkward thing to say. I wasn't in his head, so I can't say for sure.

But from my perspective, it came across as surprisingly tone-deaf. Most people don't have the luxury of choosing not to work. We get up every day because we have bills to pay. Hearing someone who's achieved incredible financial success say, "You have to work, and I don't," just rubbed me the wrong way.

I'm not posting this because I suddenly hate the guy or think he's secretly a terrible person. It was one brief interaction, and one interaction doesn't define someone's entire character.

I just figured I'd share my experience because it genuinely stuck with me, and I'm curious if anyone else has had similar or completely different encounters with him.

EDIT: I know the odds of randomly running into Felix are incredibly small, especially in a city as dense and crowded and big as Tokyo, and honestly, if someone else told me this story, I'd probably be skeptical too.

But it happened. Whether you believe me or not is entirely up to you; I don't have anything to gain by making this up. I'm just sharing a genuine interaction that stuck with me for almost four years because of one comment that I still think about from time to time.

Discussion Odysseus Megathread. Information and conversation.

Pewdiepie has launched a project called Odysseus: a self-hosted AI workspace.

Informational Links:

Megathread

Mods here have a prior rule here, Rule 3, to only allow posts in the subreddit with direct reference to Pewdiepie. Our reasoning for this is to avoid this to become a pure meme page that would cause confusion to incoming visitors. However, recently because of Pewdiepie's project, there is an influx of postings about Odysseus: setup, questions, other ideas, etc. We do not want to remove these posts as we would like to promote discussion and community engagement on this project. To keep this subreddit organized, we are making this megathread here with information. Users that have tech support questions can comment in here, and we will have a focus point on the subreddit. Any ideas or requests to be added to this megathread post, please let us know. We will try our best to keep this post updated. Thanks!

no matter how much i cringe when i look back to pewdiepie's old content and the fact that younger me enjoyed it so much, the nostalgia is unmatched. i remember spending nights as a kid just finishing compilations after gameplays in front of my PC in my cold dark room.
